Will dds curls come back if I get her hair cut?

My Dd (3) is desperate for her first hair cut, just a trim I think.

She has lovely ringlets and I’m worried they won’t come back 😩

Do they grow back?!

DS's hair was like this, then straight after it was first cut but at puberty it went curly again. Mine and his father's was similar although mine only went curly when I was 22 and had a pixie haircut. It didn't suit me and when it grew out it went spiral curly. DDs was similar to your photos but as she grew it long it isn't curly now. I expect it's the weight and the fact that it was gently wavy, not curly as such. Your DD will still be lovely however her hair turns out!

Nope.

My daughter had very curly hair, as have I. Much curlier than your daughters, and I expected her to be like me. It wasn't 'baby hair' it was proper thick curls.

Then, around 3, it went straight. She's nearly nine now, has a huge amount of hair. But it's still straight. Her older sister had straight hair from the off- it grew upwards Grin.

Whether it will change as she gets older, I don't know, but it was very odd- as her brother had 'baby curls' which disappeared, but dd2's were very different.

Dc1 had way curlier hair than your daughter, had to get it cut as it was turning into a mullet. His hair is extremely thick but also very straight now.

Gamorasgran · 14/09/2019 20:40

Dd2 had lovely spirally curls. We let it grow (with trims obviously) and they have all dropped out. It's wavy and hugely thick and all she does is tie it back.

As she regularly reminds me it's her head and her hair and she won't get it cut just in case they come back. She is a big pre teen meanie.

Cruddles · 14/09/2019 20:41

Hopefully it goes straight and she won't have to put up with the pain of curly hair for the rest of her life

EdWinchester · 14/09/2019 20:44

No, I think that is destined to be straight hair, sorry.

Mine looked like that, we had it cut at age 5 and it stayed straight after that, although its developing a bit of a wave now she's in her teens.

fantasmasgoria1 · 15/09/2019 08:18

I have naturally curly hair. I have had it long and short and in between. The curls always return. Your hair follicles don't know they have been cut so your hair carries on growing the same way.

ReneP · 15/09/2019 08:27

The top section of her hair is very straight. A hair cut won't get rid of curls that have grown out themselves.

You may find the hair gets wavier without the weight of the curls but you've been selfish in this hot weather not letting your dd have a haircut. It's her body and her hair. At 3,she is hardly a baby!

Darksideofthemoon19 · 15/09/2019 09:20

Shut up 😂😂 it’s her hair and her body 😂😂😂😂

She’s been absolutely fine in the hot weather, thank you 😌

My DDs hair was like that when she was 3. We started to getting it trimmed and now she’s almost 5 her hair is poker straight. I reckon your DD will end up with straight hair too.

ReneP · 15/09/2019 10:49

Your words:

My Dd (3) is desperate for her first hair cut, just a trim I think.

I know her hair is dry

I’m actually really dreading having it done, I think that’s why I’m holding off 😩😭

It is all about you isn't it? Doesn't matter she's desperate for a haircut

My youngest had curls as a baby but DH got it cut really short and they never grew back, in fact his hair completely changed and no longer grows very long it just grows upwards like a bouffant.
My hair was poker straight until I went through puberty then it went frizzy and curly.

Your DD needs a hair cut though even if it's just a trim.

Darksideofthemoon19 · 15/09/2019 13:36

No, I meant her hair is desperate for a trim. She doesn’t want it cut.

Op, I think ReneP has completely misunderstood and didn’t understand that ‘desperate for’ is just a descriptive phrase and not that your 3 year old has asked for a haircut!

Her comments did make me laugh though!

I know this is an old post but I have to know if your little ones curls came back, my sons dad talked me into getting his hair cut yesterday and his little curls are gone and honestly I can not stop crying 😭

Hiya, my son had long curly hair, straight at the roots though and his dad convinced me to have his cut a few days ago he's 4.5. I'm absolutely gutted 😢 did your sons curls come back?
