Why would post-Brexit affect passport applications?

CSharpLemon · 14/09/2019 08:26

I would. I have renewed DS’s passport and it took a week!

Chitarra · 14/09/2019 08:27

Yes, why not. If you renew early the extra months will be added on to the expiry date of your new passport (up to 9 months).

MongerTruffle · 14/09/2019 08:27

I would renew it now, because you might need it for ID and for right to work/rent checks.

BrieAndChilli · 14/09/2019 08:28

I might be mistaken but I don’t think the extra months get added on now!

MongerTruffle · 14/09/2019 08:28

If you renew early the extra months will be added on to the expiry date of your new passport (up to 9 months).

This doesn't happen anymore.

megletthesecond · 14/09/2019 08:28

I would. And did. I renewed ours a bit early in the spring so we still had burgundy covers. And we don't even go abroad Blush.

BrieAndChilli · 14/09/2019 08:28

I think a lot of people are waiting for post brexit so you might find the waiting times go up/might be issues while they change the passports over to the different colour etc.

Overseasmom100 · 14/09/2019 08:36

I will do it I think now

Warning for those that did renew in the time when the unexpired months were added on to the validity: post Brexit when we need to have 6 months validity on our passport even to travel to the EU, those "extra" months/days don't count for the 6 months.

So if you renewed 3 months early so that your passport is valid for 10 years and 3 months, you need a new passport nine months beforehand.

OhamIreally · 14/09/2019 09:02

I just did DD's online it took a week I was really impressed.

IsSummerOverYet19 · 14/09/2019 09:09

I wouldn’t bother if you don’t need it, why do it 7months early if you don’t have to?

You can always apply in January if it becomes obvious there is a post-Brexit wait.

DontFeedTheCatCake · 14/09/2019 09:13

Why would you do it now if you don't need it? What difference will brexit make to applying for a passport Confused

WrongKindOfFace · 14/09/2019 09:16

You can get a red one instead of a blue one?

They won’t be held up in Dover (aren't the blue ones being produced by a French company or something?)

ZenNudist · 14/09/2019 09:24

I prefer to keep my passport up to date. But travel often
