I resurrected an old desktop PC that hadn't been used for years (last with a dial-up modem, iirc) and the instant I got it online, ready to install Kaspersky on it, I got a trojan that locked the screen with a message 'from the Metropolitan Police'.
I had this, only it claimed to be Interpol. There was even a square at the top of the screen where they'd attempted to take a picture of me through the webcam, presumably so you think they have a mugshot, but my webcam was painted over in black nail varnish because I was already paranoid about hackers gaining access to it.
Told me they had detected illegal activity on my PC, and I had, IIRC, 72 hours to pay a couple of grand onto a voucher and give them the code, then they'd unlock my browser and not pursue charges
And just in case I didn't, they were tracking my address and identity and would raid my home. It even said something like, if you're getting this message as the result of a virus, you'll be fined for not having adequate anti virus software
Dipshits, as if Interpol would resort to blackmail and give you 72 hours to possibly get rid of any evidence.
Tbh, it did scare the shit out me even though I knew I'd done nothing wrong. most of my music is paid for, thank you.
^^Just kidding about that last bit Interpol, I swears.
