How much weight to see the difference

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 09:15

I have recently lost 1 stone taking me from 11st 3 to 10st 3, I think I can see a bit of a difference this morning but no massive changes.

How much weight do you need to loose to really see a difference?

I know it varies from person to person and shape to shape but just generally speaking?

At 5 stone surely there is a difference? I think as you say it has been gradual so you are getting used to your new shape as you go along?

I've lost around 3 stone in 11 weeks. I still can't see it on myself but I have issues around body image. I have been getting comments from others about my weight loss from around the 1 stone mark. Now people have said that they can see a major difference and that I've lost weight all over me.

thecatsthecats · 12/09/2019 11:22

I swear I've only just started noticing, and I've lost 5 stone!

For the first 3, I was the same (round) shape, but a bit smaller.

Now I can physically identify areas of fat and guestimate how much of the remaining 2st loss I need belongs to each area.

(I'd say 12lbs belly and back, 6lb each thigh, 1lb each arm, then the remaining 2 misc)

I think toning and strength building exercises do more than weight loss for how you look in the mirror. Yesterday was a squats day, and my arse looks fantastic (even though it feels awful).

Bluesheep8 · 12/09/2019 11:27

Maybe people HAVE noticed but just chosen not to comment. Often, unless someone has made it public knowledge that they're trying to lose weight, people don't like to comment in case the loss is unintentional and could be due to stress/illness.

ImpracticalCape · 12/09/2019 11:36

Lost 2 stone. 15% of my body weight. I'm half way through.

No one noticed proactively. People may say 'ooh I like those trousers' and I explain they've been pulled out from the back of the cupboard and I haven't fit into them for 5 years then they tend to say something like ' oh yes, you look well!'

Gah!!

I feel great though, so fuck them.

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 11:41

I am mostly concerned with me being able to notice. I think I had too high expectations of what stone looks like.

Need to get back to the gym really, just pure laziness why I haven't been if i am honest to myself.

About a stone to be noticalble, I'd possibly comment if the looser bought it up, but not other wise.

ImpracticalCape · 12/09/2019 12:08

It was about a stone and half before clothes were falling off and I'd gone down 1-2 sizes

switcharoonie · 12/09/2019 13:38

I've lost a stone and a half over the past few months, and two since the beginning of the year, when my BMI was a few pounds off obese. As of today, I'm a healthy BMI! Got a couple of stone to go though till my goal weight (I'm tall).

I've had one comment from my mum, that's it. I can't really see it in myself either. Wish I took pics at the beginning so I could compare. But I haven't even moved down a dress size yet. I think I probably should have been wearing a dress size higher than I was though (denial), so I guess that's why, things are looser. But it's definitely not dramatic.

I am an apple shape too, and I read that our body shape is likely to have more visceral fat around the organs etc. So if you're losing weight, but can't see it much, it could be that you're losing all the internal, vvvv dangerous fat inside. God knows if that's true, but it made me feel a bit better Grin

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 13:40

I like the sound of that, loosing the dangerous inside fat.

I think I should have gone up a size too but just worse leggings and loose clothes a lot instead. Probably why I haven't gone down a dress size yet.

When I lost 1.5 st (14st to 12st7lb) people commented on the difference.

Now I'm trying to get from 12st5lb to 11st before Nov 11th not sure if it's doable?

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 13:58

I think you could get reasonably close in that time scale.

OP posts:
ImpracticalCape · 12/09/2019 20:00

Hi @tierraJ. We are weight loss twins. I'm the same weight trying to get to 11 by Nov 2nd!

It's 2lb a week. I'm telling myself thats perfectly doable! I'm moving on the the 800cal fast diet from next week and I've got a quarter marathon in between...

tierraJ · 12/09/2019 20:27

Hi!

I'm doing 1500-1600 cals on a work day with 1400 cals on a non work day.
I work part time (7 days a fortnight) so that should be ok).

I've just started back at the gym but got to be a bit careful as got left hip bursitis which can hurt with too much walking for example.

I'm also aiming for 2lb loss a week at least, I know if I stick to it I can do it as I've done it before!

sallievp · 12/09/2019 20:52

I went from 11.5 stone to 8.5 stone ..could see a good difference at 10 stone and a big difference at 9.7 and lower I think...went from size 14 to size 8.
You've done so well you should be very proud of yourself 🙂

sallievp · 12/09/2019 20:53

And I have to say...getting into the 9's...9.13.75 felt amazing!! You are nearly there!

pottedshrimps · 12/09/2019 20:58

I've lost 20lbs and am more than half way to my goal, but only dh has said that I'm looking slimmer. I think around three stone before acquaintances would say something.

MrsRufusdog789 · 12/09/2019 21:16

Well done for losing 14lbs . The health benefits of what you have achieved are considerable - blood pressure - less strain on joints - even if you don't think you look appreciably thinner . Start walking now if you don't already do that - three 15 min walks a day will help too . Good luck with the rest of your weight loss journey. Remember we put weight on maybe half a pound a week so aim for small changes to get you there gradually and the weight will stay off .

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/09/2019 21:33

This is a really inspirational thread. Some amazing weight losses and a vast number of really positive attitudes too.

ISmellBabies · 12/09/2019 21:52

I've just lost 1.5st and got a couple of lovely comments from some friendly school run mums. Dh noticed a stone or less but he sees me nakeder than most people.

justilou1 · 12/09/2019 22:45

The other thing you have to come to terms with is losing your INNER fat lady. I am very slim now, but I still carry her around with me and hear her voice constantly. I have her self-esteem, unfortunately. When you lose the weight you think that will change, but maybe the weight is symptomatic of a larger issue. (No pun intended, genuinely!) I am now having counselling to try and unravel a lot of damage done to my self esteem by narcissist mother and cruel father. I am doing yoga and trying to find myself in my body - and going through menopause REALLY isn’t helping with that!!! Can I suggest that while you are working on diet and exercise, etc - also work in some mindfulness? It might help avoid the messy headspace that I’m in. Meanwhile, you must also really be proud of what you have achieved so far!!!

OpenYourEyes · 13/09/2019 09:15

Coming back to this thread this morning has done wonders for my motivation today.

I think my self esteem needs a lot of work, you are absolutely right in what you are saying.

Good luck to all who still have some to loose.

Captaindobbin · 13/09/2019 09:19

2stone. When people on my Facebook post all the slimming world certificates, it’s around the 2 stone mark that I look at them and think wow they have lost weight.

m0therofdragons · 13/09/2019 09:23

I lost 1st 7lbs and get lots of comments. I'd like to lose another half a stone but as I'm a healthy weight it'll take focus which I don't have right now so I'm just maintaining. Might go for a push in October.

MyNewBearTotoro · 13/09/2019 09:33

I lost about 1.5st last year and although I didn’t think there was much difference several people commented that I’d lost weight so it must have been noticeable to them. Unfortunately I’ve put some of it back on now but intend to try and lose it again ahead of a holiday planned for early next year...
