I know this will seem ridiculous but please help me catch a bus

I haven’t been on a bus for about 20 years

Combination of having a car, cycling a lot and having good rail links I just haven’t needed to use a bus for ages.

But now I think the bus to work some days might be easier than cycling (when I have a late shift at a location in centre of town) but I don’t know where to start.

Do I pay on the bus if I just want the odd one way ticket? In cash or swipe card? Or do I have to have a season ticket?

See I’m clueless!!

Am really ashamed and no idea where else to ask. I’ve tried googling and I can see a bus runs where I want to go and I can see about buying a bus pass or season ticket but nowhere can I find out about the odd journey and what mode of payment they accept.

TIA

most buses take contactless these days.

Where are you? I can help if you are in London.

Sparrowlegs248 · 11/09/2019 21:48

Cash will do!

Whatevskev · 11/09/2019 21:50

Oh thank you!

So get on and state destination and then pay either cash or contactless card?

Phew that’s easier than I thought

I seem to recall getting on a bus in London a few years back and being told I had to have an Oyster card and I had to get off!

I think it will depend where you live

Tiggles · 11/09/2019 21:52

Cash is fine. Ours no longer need exact change.
Some of our poster buses take contactless but not all.
We can download an app and buy tickets through it which you activate when you want to use them.

CassianAndor · 11/09/2019 21:52

In London you no longer need an Oyster card, you can just use you contactless.

No buses in London take cash or issue tickets any more.

HypatiaCade · 11/09/2019 22:01

It depends where you live and what bus company runs the bus you want to catch.

NotDavidTennant · 11/09/2019 22:06

Not all bus companies have contactless. It depends where you live.
