Gastritis... Brick in my stomach.

Or feels like it.

I haven't had any gastritis symptoms for months but this evening have awful stomach pain, nausea and bloating plus trapped wind. Thinking about what I've eaten the last few days, it's all become clear.

2 x oranges yesterday
More coffee than normal
Coleslaw
Mayonnaise
Gravy at lunchtime today
A glass of wine on empty stomach while waiting for lunch

Ouch!

Hi @Bluewavescrashing

I have had terrible gastritis the last 3 weeks. Well at least the docs think it's that Confused

Been on omeprazole the last 2 weeks but it's not working.

Eating litterally ANYTHING right now is flaring it up terribly. At my wits end with it now. I'm losing weight as I can't eat and too scared to eat.
Going to head back to the doctors this week :(

Do you know what kind of foods/drinks that are worst for gastritis?

Bluewavescrashing · 08/09/2019 22:34

My list above covers most aggravating foods. They are acidic or encourage acidity in the stomach. Vinegar is a trigger as well. I'm usually quite careful to avoid these foods but it's gone under my radar and I've had all the wrong stuff.

I've been very stressed this week as I separated from my alcoholic husband... We later decided to try again and he has been to AA but I think my stomach has been suffering as a result of stress.

I've been taking ibuprofen for chronic pain too which is also a trigger for gastritis.

Omeprazole should help you, I need to get back on mine.

Fruit juice and fizzy drinks like coke are also acidic and should be avoided. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Hi OP. It may not be linked to what you've had before, there's a bug doing the rounds.

I had exactly those symptoms on Thursday evening. Friday I was in no fit state to do anything, achey, sore throat, tired - and stomach felt OK until I ate something. Still had the aches, sore throat and lost voice on Saturday, stomach still dodgy (strawberries, again acidic, on Saturday evening nearly killed me - at least that was what it felt like), but a lot better on Sunday (though still had to be careful what I ate).

I hope it's that for you, because at least it's over fairly quickly.

Hi. Not sure if you have the same as me. I have gastritis as well as IBS and the thing that has helped me was the alkaline diet. But my IBS would still flare up and I’ve noticed that an elimination diet followed by eating low FODMAP helped me a lot. It was recommended by my GP as nothing else worked. It’s not advisable to follow the FODMAP diet as it’s quite restrictive but it’s good for those with IBS. You can gradually introduce food that are medium in FODMAP. Someone on MN recommended the Monash app which was really helpful. I was looking for low FODMAP recipes for DP and then it turned out that I too needed it as well.

Well by 12 midnight it had eased off enough for me to sleep, DS came in for a cuddle as he had a nightmare in the night at some point but it wasn't so bad then. First thing this morning it felt almost back to normal. I didn't throw up- yay! Had some dry toast for breakfast which was OK.

It could have been a bug, I'm not sure. Thanks for low FODMAP recommendation, I'll be avoiding anything acidic for a while. I'll get back on the omeprazole and avoid ibuprofen too.

When I have a flare up I tend to stick to ranitidine and paracetamol. Food wise, plain chicken with lettuce or plain chicken with apple sauce on brown bread for a few days. Feel better soon!

MrsMozartMkII · 09/09/2019 13:05

You have my empathy.

I've been away for the weekend. It was full on active and my now usually carefully controlled diet went to pot, plus some additional stress hit, and fish an I suffering for it. Feel coldy and croaky and snuffly and innards are having a fist fight in there. So bloody annoying.

Bluewavescrashing · 09/09/2019 13:33

Thanks all. I had an avocado wrap for lunch which is sitting fine. Plain sponge cake too. 👍🥑🍰

Thank you Bluewavescrashing. Yay for things staying put! Hope you're on the definite mend.

I didn't know strawberries would be bad for gastritis?! I have a box in the fridge and was going to have them thinking they would be a safe option being fruit.

Help what can i eat? Only had one piece of toast today, which flared it up a little but not too bad.

Hi @Bluewavescrashing
How did you get on ? Did you heal your gastritis? Would be grateful for any tips! All the best.
