Urgent help please - how can we get a crowd funding payment recalled?

Dh paid an NHS crowd funding thing £500 by mistake, he meant to pay them £5

ARGHHHH

the bank said they can't recall it as its a crowd funding payment, even though the payment is seen as pending online

We're with Nationwide

Can anyone advise, I am on min wage and certainly cannot afford to lose £500Angry

I have no idea - if it is a webpage hosted by a funding service can you contact the service direct? Or let the people raising the money know?

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 06/09/2019 16:57

Ouch.

I don't think the bank can (will?) do anything so I'd try the site

Confusedasnormal · 06/09/2019 16:58

Maybe try a different tack with the bank and dispute the card transaction as it was supposed to be £5.

NoBaggyPants · 06/09/2019 16:59

The NHS don't do crowd funding. What was it that you donated to?

The problem with trying a different tack with the bank is that they're already going to have a record of your call.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 17:02

You need to contact whoever’s organising the event.

Or transfer all the money out of that account so the payment bounces?

NoBaggyPants · 06/09/2019 17:02

If it was through Just Giving, they suggest that you contact the organisation/ person the crowd funding is for.

ssd · 06/09/2019 17:06

The payment is still pending on line, so I was the hoping the bank would recall the money

Unfortunately because you authorised the payment, it can't simply be recalled.

See if the organiser can help.

ssd · 06/09/2019 17:14

If I transferred all the money out of our account wouldn't we rack up loads of charges? I'm always really careful and keep money in the account to cover bills etc but this has me worried sick.

OP posts:
NoBaggyPants · 06/09/2019 17:17

Yes, you'll get charged for this payment and for anything else due to come out the account. It's awful advice.

Have you contacted the fundraiser?

Knittedfairies · 06/09/2019 17:21

I'm not sure if this is of any help:
www.nationwide.co.uk/support/payments-and-transfers/pending-transactions

ChicCroissant · 06/09/2019 17:23

It is definitely not down to the bank IMO, they haven't done anything wrong. Contact the website and fundraiser and hope that they can help.

Mlou32 · 06/09/2019 17:29

Contact the person who owns the crowdfunder. Explain the situation. As they are looking for charity themselves, hopefully the will be charitable in return and refund the money.

KUGA · 06/09/2019 17:30

Try and contact Martin Lewis the money chap whos on This Morning. Google his name and fingers xd you will get help.

Sorrysorrysosorry · 06/09/2019 17:34

Or transfer all the money out of that account so the payment bounces?

It will still be paid the account will be into an unauthorised overdraft and you will get charged LOADS!

SleepWarrior · 06/09/2019 17:35

Do you know the person raising the money?

Nhs + crowdfunding sounds a bit suspect to me so I'd be worried that the person on the end isn't going to care about returning your money. I do hope you can get it back though, good luck.

AgnesNutterWitch · 06/09/2019 18:12

Like others have said, your best bet is to contact the crowd funding people, explain the amount was an error and ask for the payment to be refunded.

Which website was it through?

LuciferTheCat · 06/09/2019 18:12

oh god OP. What a complete nightmare.

notangelinajolie · 06/09/2019 18:19

Move all money out your account to somewhere else. If you don't have an overdraft facility then the payment will fail.

squeakybike · 06/09/2019 20:12

If he did it by card details and it's pending, call the bank and declare the card as lost. That should block the card and the pending payment as they won't be able to authorise it.

SleepyKat · 06/09/2019 20:15

I organised a crowdfunded once and someone did this. I actually messaged them to say I thought they’d made a mistake. They had and I refunded it. Hopefully this person is as honest.

Loveislandaddict · 06/09/2019 20:20

refund

It’s possible to get refunds on debit cards. Does this article help?

ssd · 06/09/2019 22:28

Thanks everyone

Dh contacted the organisation doing the crowd funding and he's getting a refund.

Thank God!!!

Though I'll feel better when the money is back in our account.
