Can I have some help please with wording this message.

I manage a kids sports team and the coach wants a child to move to the lower team because the child isnt quite ready or developed enough to play for this current team yet. He has only just learnt the sport with no game experience under his belt and the coach feels that he would benefit more from going into the lower team. It's also a safety thing as well.

The child is lovely gets on with everyone and I just dont know how to word it ... gently.

Can't you take the parents aside and speak to them face to face? E mail can be a bit cold and blunt.

If not just emphasise the positive. That their child is a lovely member of the team but has not yet gained the necessary skills to participate at that level. Moving them to a lower level would allow them to gain these skills and make their participation in the sport more pleasurable for them.

How old is the dc and how did they end up in the higher team? It seems more appropriate to offer the chance to move rather than tell them they have to move. Sounds like it could be quite a hurtful situation.

Could you frame it by saying the lower team is really struggling and you can see the child's skills and personality would really help the others in the team to gel and get better?

Dear parents,
It is lovely having X at our club and I hope he has been enjoying himself. He is a lovely child who gets on with everyone.
However, now we have had a chance to assess him, the coach thinks (and I agree) that X would be better suited to the junior team at this time. As a relative newcomer to the sport he is at risk of getting hurt in the senior team, especially as most of the senior players are more physically developed than he is. Also in the junior team he will have more chance to develop his knowledge of the sport before progressing onwards.
I hope you and X understand and are happy with our reasoning, if you would like to discuss it further please feel free to phone me or discuss at the next training session.
Regards
