Curious if this is a first edition of Phillip Pullman's Grimm tales for young and old

I read if there's a 1 in the ISBN it could well be?

I would of thought first edition would of been from 1980 when it was first published.

No it isn't. The 1 would be at the end, where the 6 is.

The ISBN identifies the specific book, author and title and design. Whether its the first printing or the 800th printing, the ISBN will be the same.

First printings are usually indicated by the numbers 1-10 in a line on the reverse of the title page. 6-10 would indicate 6th printing of that edition for example.

Hope that was clear, it made sense in my head anyway!

I also understood that first editions have

10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 on the title page
