Silverfish Insects....

We discovered some insects appearing on the kitchn floor. One, sometimes two every night time for about the last 10 days. Captured one and took it to the council. Was concerned they are cockroaches.

Council stated they are called Silverfish. They seemed very "meh" about it too. Said they are harmless and not to worry.

Not really the point - not good discovering them when the light goes on. Have tried to treat areas round the kitchen with Raid.

Also concerned as they seem to thrive in damp enviroments and can find no evidence of damp in the house. It's an apartment anyway on the upper floors. No eveidence of water leaks either.

Has anyone else experienced Siverfish and if so how did you deal with it? If you squish them they go to like silver grey powder!

Give your kitchen floor a regular bleaching. I get them in my downstair loo all the time. Bleach cleaning the floor and skirting seems to put them off for a bit.

I have some Zoflora to try.

They don't really bother me. We had them for a while after our bathroom had flooded and it wasn't completely dry yet. Haven't seen them since but if you really don't like them, you can buy insect killer powders.

Don’t kill them! That’s so cruel.

They do no harm. They appear now and again in our bathroom (no damp) and occasionally we’ll see them in other areas of the house. We’re happy to co-exist with them!

I had them ages ago in my bathroom in a 6th floor old Parisian apartment - I too though they were cockroaches and called an exterminator in a panic - he laughed at me - showed me some pictures of actual cockroaches and waived the call out fee- that was nice of him - but he did think it was hilarious.

Silverfish have loved in my parents home for decades with no issue, all sides peacefully coexist! I quite like them, they're rather elegant looking insects...

*lived, not loved! I'm sure they probably do love it, though...
