In readiness for the film I'm catching up on the final episode. Apart from the people in the know, what do people think the relationship between edith and marigold is?

Anyone?

Wasn't Marigold her daughter? She had an affair with rich guy who disappeared during the war 🤔 went down to London pregnant and gave birth whilst staying at her aunt's.

I also need to brush up on details as I want to see it too 👍

You mean what do the other characters know? Marigold was passed off as relative of one of the tenant farmers. Edith then took her on as a ward to give her opportunities.

She means the characters in the show! I think they think Marigold is Ediths ward.

Marigold is the daughter of Edith and Micheal Gregson. Gregson was killed in Germany and as Marigold was born out of wedlock,. Edith hoped to conceal Marigolds true identity so pretend she was her ward but of course the family find out her true identity.

Yep. I’m currently watching the episodes on itv3.

But Edith revealed Marigold was actually her daughter at the end of the series, so everyone knows!

I wonder what terrible event will happen so Bates or Anna is arrested yet again!

I'm hoping that the King's limo runs Anna and Bates over at the gates of Downton. Perfect start to the film...

Was it confirmed that Marigold's dad died or is he still "missing"?

It was confirm that he was dead. I think he was attached by a gang of some kind. I didn't buy or download the last few series as the story lines were getting boring and repetitive. Especially the Bates /Anna under suspicion of murder again storyline. And I could tell the difference between Mary’s two suitors as they both looked so similar. I did enjoy the finale though, and am looking forward to the film, but the show went on for far too long.

Was wondering about lady mary being pregnant at the end of the last series ...cant find anything about her second child in the film ? Lady edith was with marigolds father , he was killed by the nazis ( before the have rose to power , the ref is brown shirts )

Mary was pregnant in the last series and that is resolved in the film...

Lady Edith was in love with Marigold's father who was a respectable man if not a hugely desirable catch, he loved her too but was not free to propose as he was already married. His wife was insane and I think in an asylum but he could not divorce her as she was not considered able to sign the divorce papers or maybe insanity was not an allowable reason for divorce, the laws were stricter then. In Germany, however, the laws were different and so the plan was that he would live in Germany until he'd been there long enough to be able to get divorced over there and then come back for Edith. They were secretly engaged and slept together once; the night before he was due to leave.

Unfortunately shortly after he arrived in Germany the night of the long knives happened which is when Hitler had lots of ranking and influential Germans murdered or arrested in one night as part of his rise to power. The father was caught up in that and killed.

Edith was taken out of the country by her Granny to give birth and the child was left out there with a local family. Edith couldn't deal with that so brought her over to be a ward in a local farm, couldn't do that either so took her in as her own ward, couldn't deal with that either and admitted to family that she was the mum.

I can't remember anyone else's storyline like that though. I loved little Marigold!
