Hi everyone, Im trying to improve my confidence levels and general poise! Normally I gabble nervously if someone gives me a compliment. How do you respond?

I typically say 'thanks that's really kind'. :)

Balloondog · 02/09/2019 16:50

Say thank you! Smile

Thank you! ~breezy smile return compliment~

Smile and say thank you

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 02/09/2019 18:10

Yup just say "that's really kind of you to say so" with a smile.

I'm sure I read somewhere (one of those old time etiquette books, they republish for Christmas probably) that it is the mark of a lady that they take a compliment graciously and that is as gracious as you get.

If it's about something you're wearing, never deprecate it ("this old thing?!!") or mention how much it cost. You can get away with "it's a favourite of mine" or "it's very comfy."

Noooo don’t make up a compliment to give someone just cos they’ve given you one! It sounds so fake!

Just say “ah thank you, that’s so kind” or similar

MsMarvellous · 02/09/2019 18:18

It's never a fake compliment. I only hang out with awesome people SmileGrin

“Thank you” and big smile or “Thank you” big smile and tell them they made your day.

Doing an art degree taught me how to take compliments. And criticism. Oh the criticism...

Thank you everyone! I determined to put this into practice. Then hopefully it will be second nature.

I would say " oh thank you, what a lovely thing to say"

TheAlternativeTentacle · 02/09/2019 19:51

I usually say 'I have no money to give you'. And we laugh.
