Stoke Mandeville were brilliant for antenatal care. I was consultant led and happy with my appointments and monitoring. I ended up having an ECV as DD was breach which didn't work but I was happy with the process anyway and then had to have a c section and couldn't fault the theatre team or recovery team. All very very good.

The postnatal care was good on the whole but they were very quick to try to get a bottle of formula into DD when my milk was slow to come in. It completely fucked up our start to breastfeeding and required a huge amount of bloody mindedness and unwavering will to BF to overcome this. Other friends had the same experience. DD now has a form of dairy allergy seen almost purely in formula fed babies.

Despite this, if I have another baby I will still choose Stoke because overall the care was very good. But it will be my absolute priority to get home so that I can get on with BF in peace.

I don't want to be patronising, but I would think very carefully about the location of your hospital. For various reasons DD and I were back and forth to Stoke Mandeville frequently (including a readmission) and it was all a bit of a nightmare as I live half an hour away so basically during those precious first few days/couple of weeks when I could have done with being relaxed at home with DD I was having to be ferried backwards and forwards to Stoke which seemed to obliterate an entire day and parking there is no fun at all (but that's probably the same everywhere).

Bedford Hospital maternity unit is good, had my dc there, and it is probably the next nearest for you.
