Hubby first day back to work today, some words of encouragement

I am 23, FTM and have a gorgeous 20 days old baby boy. Hubby has gone back to work today (we both work in schools so we had 3 weeks together, then another 3 weeks with little one). I do miss him as he’s my best friend 😥 However, my day with Lo has gone well so far. I woke up early and prepped for the day ahead. Pre made lunches and even did a quick tidy. Have even managed to go out for the first time alone with the baby. It was a short walk (only managed about 20 mins) and now he is asleep in my arms. I am a little worried about the afternoon as that’s usually when he gets a little grumpy...

I don’t think there’s much reason of me writing this apart from wanting to just talk to someone 😂 I just pray the afternoon goes as smoothly. Can’t wait to hear the keys in the door and give OH a big cuddle 😌

Aw I know it's tough when they have to leave to go back to work but it sounds like you have done a great job today and your OH will be home shortly. You will get great mother and baby bonding time while he is working.
I have a 2 month old and my dp works away from home so won't be home until Wednesday Sad we are keeping in touch with video calls so the baby can see his dad. Luckily he does recognise him on the video calls.

Aww, this brings back memories! My elder DS was born on 10th August so he would have been a similar age to yours this time 26 years ago!
I well remember being left on my own with him for the 1st time. My DH even left me a packed lunch in case I didn't get chance to make something for myself.
It sounds like you've had a lovely morning. Hope the afternoon grumps aren't too bad. Bet your DH is missing you both like crazy.

@whattodo20192 thank you for messaging and your kind words! And that’s amazing! You are so strong to be coping with OH working away... hopefully Wednesday hurries up for you ☺️ Hubby just called to say he misses us a lot 😌 thanks for messaging x

@Hannie123 Snap! It’s my DH’s first day back after 3 weeks together today as well. I am totally winging it and have no idea what I’m doing. Going for a walk this afternoon but he’s been awake most of the morning and unsettled.

Hannie123 · 02/09/2019 12:42

@latedecember1963 wow 26 years ☺️ My little one is 3 weeks tomorrow and I’m already starting to think he’s growing up to fast! Thank you for messaging, it silly but I’m quite proud of myself today. I was really really apprehensive about hubby leaving, but right now I’m feeling quite good. He just called to say he misses us lots and I think he felt better knowing I was coping well. It’s such a daunting time!

@Tobebythesea oh really! I’m sure you are doing an amazing job with your little one. I can definitely say I am winging this completely 😂 the mornings are okay but it’s the nights I struggle with but that’s a different topic. What time is your OH home? Make sure you try to eat some lunch to keep your energy up xx

Hang on in there, as pp said it gets easier. When I was left alone with the baby for the first time, I cried, but I'm managing much better now that he's in his twenties Grin

PurpleWithRed · 02/09/2019 12:59

So lovely to hear you have such a fantastic OH and are so supportive and happy together. Just busk it like the rest of us did, as long as there is plenty of love around you will be fine.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 02/09/2019 13:02

My DH is a teacher and I’m a SAHM - I still feel a bit like this and our eldest is 16!

It takes me a while to get used to him being around —getting under my feet— at the beginning of the long holidays, and then I miss him for a few days in September.

You’ll find your own routine. And then be annoyed at DH in October half term when he messes it up Grin

Hannie123 · 02/09/2019 13:32

@PurpleWithRed thank you ☺️ He really is the best and most sweetest man, so I always miss him when he’s not around 😅

We both work in education and loved our long holidays together! Everyone tells me come October and he’ll be spoiling my routine haha

Hannie123 · 02/09/2019 16:48

@tobebythesea I’m glad you had lunch! I managed to even sneak in some good chocolate 😅 8! Oh god, that’s late. Hubby is home now but it’s dawned upon me I have to do this all again tomorrow 😧 hope hubby is home soon and the rest of evening goes well for you. I’m here if you wanna chat/ message xx
