Housebound and lonely

I sprained my ankle badly a few days ago and can't weight bear.

I am usually a really active person and it's really getting me down that I can't do anything.

I'm stuck in the house. DP is away for 2 weeks and I am just crawling about on my hands and knees feeling quite sad.

I don't even think I'll be able to go to work on Monday because it's a 2 mile walk and the toilets are miles away from my desk.

I am just eating crisps and chocolate as that's all I have in the house. I haven't seen or spoken to anyone for three days and am going a bit out of my mind as it's still so black and swollen I can't see it getting better soon.

I am not sure what the point of this thread is -just reaching out, I guess.

Can you get a taxi? Borrow crutches? Kind of know what you mean, I had surgery 4 weeks ago, am on sticks, and getting a bit stir crazy now.

Belledan1 · 31/08/2019 08:48

Hi. Cant you do an online shop or order a takeaway.

MrsMozartMkII · 31/08/2019 08:52

Taxi
Crutches
Wheelchair hire (it's a thing)
Friends or family who could come for a few hours or a stay?
Whereabouts in the country are you (roughly), someone might be able to suggest a local support organisation.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 31/08/2019 09:00

Didn't the hospital send you away with crutches?

Ricekrispie22 · 31/08/2019 09:03

Use the time to do something productive and positive - could you start planning a holiday for next year?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 31/08/2019 09:13

Ring friends and invite them over.

Online shop.

Work - ask to sit nearer the loos and get a taxi there. Or is it work that can be done from home?

lljkk · 31/08/2019 09:13

Are you depressed, OP? (I fucking hate that question so you can hate me too for asking it, but honestly...)

There are other solutions to your difficult solution than how you describe things going right now.

WrongKindOfFace · 31/08/2019 09:14

You need crutches or a knee scooter. www.wheelfreedom.com/products/knee-scooter/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzov7zdSs5AIVTeJ3Ch3ysA8hEAAYASAAEgK0XPD_BwE

Order an online shop.

Get a taxi to work.

Did you actually go to the hospital or are you assuming it’s a sprain? Might be worth getting it checked if you haven’t or if it isn’t improving.

YorkieTheRabbit · 31/08/2019 09:19

Definitely an online shop, Morrison’s will take your shopping into the kitchen for you. Can you use a dining chair as help to move around? Not ideal but you could rest your knee on the seat and push along. At least you wouldn’t need to crawl. Flowers

YorkieTheRabbit · 31/08/2019 09:20

Scrap the dining chair idea, the knee scooter looks spot on Smile

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 31/08/2019 09:31

Thanks all.

Hospital told me to weight bear so didn't give me crutches but I genuinely can't.

I don't have many friends Blush and my family who live round the corner are all on holiday.

I know there's practical things I can do like get taxis but I really don't know where to go or what to do - it sounds stupid but all my hobbies are outdoorsy and active (which is how I fucked up the ankle in the first place).

I am just feeling a bit down and sorry for myself. I know it's not the end of the world.

I think the taxi suggestion was for work.

Get an online shop or takeaway that will cover a few meals.

Watch a box set on Netflix/ Prime etc.

Monday will be here in no time.

NoBaggyPants · 31/08/2019 09:44

Also ask on a local Facebook group if anyone has any crutches. A taxi can collect them for you.

StrongTea · 31/08/2019 09:45

Order a stick/walking cane from amazon, get you a bit more mobile.

WrongKindOfFace · 31/08/2019 09:54

Argos can do same day delivery of crutches. I expect local mobility shops may also deliver. Or there is amazon prime. Get a pair until you can manage to weight pair.

If you have a ruck sack use that you carry stuff from room to room.

Honestly, get some proper food and something to help you be more mobile and things will look much brighter.

IAmBannedAgainTheBastards · 31/08/2019 09:55

Horrible situation to be in, it's so frustrating
Do you like reading /have Netflix?

MrsMozartMkII · 01/09/2019 09:01
