So I’ve decided I’m going to get myself a puppy as a sibling for my 5 year old spaniel but tbh mainly as an Xmas present for myself

My niece is a fan of this band and when I asked her what breed to get, she showed me the dog of one of the band member’s ... and I want one!

I am clueless but it is gorgeous! I reckon it’s a mix of breeds but wondered if any of you know? I’ll attach photos

That looks like a real mutt! Good on the band member for not showing off a pedigree dog.
I’d say it’s a chihuahua crossed with something that had husky and border collie grandparents.
Is that even physically possible?

Definitely a bit of collie and husky in there.
Which sounds like a nightmare combination

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/08/2019 12:21

What band is it? They’ve probably IG about it some where.

Looks like a pom husky mix...

Cherrysoup · 30/08/2019 12:47

Hmm. If it is a husky/Pom mix, you’re looking at up to £2k. I think it’s a shit mix, poms are already pretty uncommon, I think deliberately crossing them is a bit unfortunate. The advice with huskies is that they’re never to be off lead due to their eagerness to chase and destroy small furries. I imagine your spaniel goes off lead?

If you do go for a designer mix, make sure you’ve seen relevant breed health tests (not vet checks) for both parents. There are sadly lots of people who’ve jumped on this bandwagon and care more for profit than the health of the puppies.

Boots20 · 30/08/2019 12:50

Definitely a lucky cross, my guess is either a pomeranian or a corgi. Some cross breeds (designer breeds) can be pretty expensive & some are prone to head problems

Cherrysoup · 30/08/2019 12:50

If you like the look of that dog, have you considered Finnish laphunds? You’d probably need to go on a waiting list, but they’re beautiful.

Hucky cross not lucky cross...although the dog does look happy

Redpriestandmozart · 30/08/2019 12:52

I'm going with Pomeranian x black and tan Jack Russel. I would also have thought Pom x Tib spaniel but since they're quite rare now I'd go with JR, not with erect ears. The coat is very Pom like and you can see in the first picture it is actually clipped short and leg length would match. But I think it's really a Heinz 57, we're so used to just seeing a crossbreed now we forget that cross them again and you have a mongrel with every pup in the litter looking different!

tabulahrasa · 30/08/2019 12:53

Online 5SOS fans reckon it’s a Tibetan terrier cross corgi or pomsky

Either cross is a terrible one for a pet tbh...

HarrySnotter · 30/08/2019 13:04

I mean this kindly, but I'm not sure choosing a dog because a pop star has one is the best way to choose a dog.

Zakana · 30/08/2019 13:13

What a gorgeous little dog, I want one! I have a JRT plus his four offspring which are JRT x Cyprus poodle, I keep telling my DP that we need another, but he’s firmly putting his foot down, five is enough! Although because we have so many and it is chaos at times, maybe he wouldn’t notice if I snuck another one in....

Cherrysoup · 30/08/2019 13:16

Again, corgis are increasingly uncommon. If I had space, I’d be choosing a few British rare breeds that are on the verge of extinction. I find it such a shame that people are influenced by media exposure and some breeds are dying out as a result. We need some high profile programmes featuring corgis, Manchester terriers etc!

Zaphodsotherhead · 30/08/2019 13:41

I'm not sure that you're on the right track by choosing a dog based on the way it looks as a puppy (esp when you don't even know what breed it is). It might be something that grows up to be bloody huge, or need to run 15 miles a day or it eats the house, or can't be left alone or takes three years to become housetrained.

Go back to basics. Choose a dog that fits with your lifestyle and is noted for being easy to keep with another dog. Never mind the breed. Or (and I know it's hard) how cute a puppy it makes.

SwizzelStick · 30/08/2019 13:45

Are corgis dying out? They're everywhere online at the moment.

Delatron · 30/08/2019 14:31

Surely it’s better to research dog breeds and decide what is the best fit for your family? Some may look cute but an be high energy/ not good with children. We spent about a year doing research...

missmouse101 · 30/08/2019 14:34

It is utterly mad to choose a dog based solely on looks. There are many other things you must consider.

DontCallMeShitley · 30/08/2019 15:10

If you want to get a crossbreed mongrel, there are millions in shelters, and plenty of them are small and very cute, and are also young.

Whatever you do, avoid a Tibetan terrier mix if you are going to deliberately choose a combination.

thecapitalsunited · 30/08/2019 15:15

I think Pembroke corgis are off the vulnerable British breeds list now but Cardigan corgis are still on it.

Drogosnextwife · 30/08/2019 15:17

Looks like collie x husky

vikktorya · 30/08/2019 15:17

Hi all, of course I wouldn’t pick a dog based on looks solely... I just needed to know what kind of dog it was so I could research into it. I’ve had dogs my whole life and wouldn’t ever do anything on a whim. I know my stuff I was curious...
People do love a good patronise :)

Thanks everyone xx
