I want a Swallows & Amazons holiday! Any suggestions?

We've been listening to the Swallows & Amazons audiobooks in the car (on to number 4 now!) and it's reignited my own childhood love of the books, & reminded me of holidays spent in the Lake District as a kid. Now I really want to take the kids on a Swallows & Amazons holiday! - maybe rent a house with a rowing boat available up in the Lakes to potter around (massively expensive to be on the lakeshore I suppose) - or some sort of sailing holiday for a week? Any bright ideas, and any other S&A lovers?

www.loghouseholidays.co.uk/ I think this is the modern, non-Lake District version.

Norfolk Broads (and re-read The Coot Club)

And try expeditions with this company:

A few options Dorset fits the bill. A lovely place to stay www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/custom-house-dorset

A day on the steam train visiting Corfe Castle, a day at sea with Moonfleet Adventure Sailing and a magical tea with a twist here www.bluepooltearooms.co.uk/

Then there is Suffolk which is where Arthur Ransome moved to www.visitsuffolk.com/blog/arthur-ransomes-suffolk.aspx You can also sail in Arthur Ransome's boat Nancy Blackett by joining the trust.

Here is the walking trail nancyblackett.org/wp-content/uploads/Arthur-Ransome-Shotley-Walking-Trail-Leaflet.pdf

Then there is the Lake District home of Swallows and Amazons there is a wonderful Twitter account full of inspiration and a stunning hotel in the Lakes twitter.com/anotherplace_uk or stay in Arthur Ransome's house www.lakelovers.co.uk/property/the-cottage-at-hill-top/

You can visit Haverthwaite Railway Station and take a boat ride to see the sites www.golakes.co.uk/Coniston-Swallows-and-Amazons-Tour/details/?dms=3&feature=1002&venue=5019652

Have a wonderful time and don't forget to make/buy a picnic wherever you go.

A wooden camping pod at the National Trust campsite in Wasdale just at the end of beautiful Wastwater.

Or a family room at the Ambleside YHA which is right on Windermere and you can row out to Wild Cat Island...
