Would you refuse to pay for two sun loungers when you only need one?

At a well know European summer destination. I’m here with my parents, so they got two sun loungers and an umbrella. €20 for the set.

I only wanted one extra for me, as there are three of us. The beach was not at all busy, and there were even front row loungers free.

I asked the extremely obnoxious man how much 1 sun lounger would be... €20...the price of two.. I explained it was just me, and as it happened there was an umbrella with one sun lounger beneath it nearby. I was told “I don’t care, makes no difference €20”

He then conceded that I could pull a third lounger under one umbrella and pay €10. When I told him there was not enough shade he just shrugged.

Now I would understand more if the beach was busy, but it was pretty empty for summer.... now I know why

So out of principle, I sat on the edge of my mums lounger, rather than hand over €20 for one lounger!

Do you often cut your nose off to spite your face?

FFS!!!

I'm with you OP...but instead I would have kept walking! We had similar issue in Greece many years ago... Very expensive sun loungers.. Quiet beach as out of season.. Everyone sat on sand.
A large group (4 families) offered to pay half price.. Refused... Vendor preferred to have no income than to negotiate a discount... Madness!

Would it make you feel better to consider it as E20 for the umbrella with loungers free? :-)

I’m not sure if you’re being petty or tight fisted!

Rather than the man being obnoxious why not consider that his income is seasonal and he is there to earn a living before the season ends.

After seeing how rude and arrogant he was towards me and others, I couldn’t give a flying monkeys about his business. He genuinely was the Greek incarnation of Rab Nesbitt

Probably sick of cheeky fuckers expecting discounts.

So you wanted a lounger and an umbrella? €20 for the pair. His normal offer is €20 for two loungers and get an umbrella free!
