What tops go well with a floral skirt?

I bought some pale coloured floral skirts which I really loved and couldn't wait to wear...but then I found that any top I put with them looks wrong/doesn't go! I have ended up not wearing them and them gathering dust in my wardrobe! I really want to get some wear out of them before the weather changes! What style/colour of top works with quite short, summery, floral skirts??

White t shirt?
White gypsy shirt?
Any colour in the skirt in a t-shirt?

I wear basic t-shirt material vest tops in white or black mostly. For work I wear the basic t-shirts with short sleeves in mostly white or black. Some of my floral skirts also look good with yellow vest tops.

What kind of skirts?

Black top and sandals will go with any colour skirt.

Or, pick the dominant colour of the skirt and go with a darker colour for the top.

Usually plain vest or t/shirt tops, but this is why I usually go for dresses - it’s easier than trying to match things up!

I've attached a couple of pictures, these aren't the exact skirts I have but very similar in terms of style and colouring etc. I think the problem I have is t-shirts tend to be a bit baggy and then look odd because the skirts are quite fitted. They also aren't that long (and I'm quite short!). Their pale colour doesn't help because I always thought the top half of the outfit should be lighter than the bottom half, so I never feel a black top looks right- especially as the skirts are so summery!

I totally agree re summer dresses! So much easier! I just feel like now I've bought these skirts I ought to wear them! I didn't anticipate how hard it would be to find something to go!

I wear plain vest tops in the same colour as the flower or pattern of the skirt normally.
