Seedlip mini bottles for £1 in Holland and Barratt

Seedlip is a non alcoholic gin that's usually very expensive (more than many bottles of real gin despite being exempt from alcohol duties) and reviews range from 'indistinguishable from real gin' , to 'overpriced cordial' or even 'horrible' and I'm sure I'm not the only Mumsnetter curious about what it tastes like but not wanting to risk £28 on a full size bottle if it's not nice or a waste of money.

But now Holland and Barratt are selling miniatures for only £1 each, which is an ideal opportunity to try it cheaply. You can also get free click and collect on two of the flavours so no risk of a wasted journey. I've ordered a couple of bottles of the spice and garden flavours and will look for the one that is out of stock online so I can try them and decide for myself whether I actually like them and if it is actually anything like real gin.

I’ve had it and I don’t think it tastes like real gin - but I do like it. It tastes.... herbal and grown up if that makes any sense? Worth a try at that price though! :)

Thanks Barbara, top tip.

I like the citrus one with ginger tonic.

Thanks Barbara. I've wanted to try Seedlip but was put off by the price of a bottle.

MorgenMuffel · 28/08/2019 07:37

Thanks, been wanting to try these for a while!

RedWineForMePlease · 28/08/2019 07:52

I like the citrus and spice ones, but find the garden one tastes of peas!

Oh and no, tastes nothing like real proper gin, but is a decent enough substitute.

SarahMused · 28/08/2019 07:55

Anyone know why the price reverts to £3 when I add it to my shopping basket. Keen to give this a try.

SarahMused · 28/08/2019 08:00

Looks like the price has gone back up! That is so annoying.

TheNemesisOfLame · 28/08/2019 08:06

A few pubs round here are now selling it. Which may be an option if you want to try it.
Still same price as one with actual booze which irks me as there won't be duty on it - so I dont think they've got their price point right...

happyasasandboy · 28/08/2019 08:18

I like the garden one. I was served it with tonic, crushed lime, apples and orange slices in it, and I wouldn't have known it was non-alcoholic if I hadn't been told. It was delicious Smile

Sorry folks, so it has. I ordered mine last night, but it was definitely still £1 when I posted this morning, because I checked to see if the one that was out of stock had magically become available again overnight, which it hasn't, which is a shame, because that's the one that I like the look of the most - I'm a bit worried about the one that tastes of peas.

Maybe it was a mistake, and I might not get mine for £1 anyway Sad

It tastes nothing like real gin. It's simply an expensive cordial that happens to have been flavoured using distillation techniques rather than simply adding a liquid flavouring. It's nice enough don't get me wrong, but it's not a gin replacement and there are other similar cordials on the market for £3-£4.

Comefromaway · 28/08/2019 09:11

Dh has tried it (he hs to severly retrict his alcohol intake due to a vestibular disorder). The garden one isn;pt nice apprently but the spiced one is.

He (and dd) would reccomend a brand called Cedars instead.

KenAdams · 28/08/2019 09:25

I can't get my head around the fact that it costs more than actual gin but is lacking the alcohol.

FlibbertyGiblets · 30/08/2019 19:01

£1 each in-store today. Just fyi!

Tobebythesea · 30/08/2019 19:13

I got a free sample with a can of fever tree tonic outside a tube station a few months ago. I was thrilled as I was pregnant at the time. It was revolting and tasted like grass.

sueelleker · 30/08/2019 20:52

Thanks for that-they'll make great stocking fillers (I know.....)

TiredOldTable · 30/08/2019 21:37

It is vile. Didn’t a mumsnetter take it back to Waitrose and get a refund after Christmas as they had opened it and as it was nothing like gin. They claimed it was miss sold.
