How much money to give for a wedding gift?

We have a wedding in a months time and its one of DH very close friends.

How much is the normal amount to give?

It's a really difficult question to answer because it depends on how well off your circle of friends is and to a certain extent, there are cultural and geographic variances - e.g. I believe in Ireland people are typically very generous, and in my DH's (non European) culture, only the parental/older generation give gifts at all, but the gifts are very large, typically gold, jewellery or generous cash gifts. Younger people would attend the wedding as a family with their parents and not usually give the couple anything from them specifically, it's just one large gift from everyone (but paid for by parents - score for us!).

So none of that really helps you (sorry!), the answer of course has to be to give what you are comfortable with. DH and I would usually give £100-£150 at a Western/UK wedding if we are both attending for the whole day. Maybe more like £50-75 if it's just one of us or if it's evening only... But if you can't afford that, or conversely you are very well off and can easily afford more, then of course change that!

£20 -£50, no more unless its a close relative

£20-50, may the higher end if its from both of you and you are close friends.

How much did they give when you married your DH?

£50 for someone close, £20 if not, but obviously only what you can afford anyway.

For a very close friend I'd give £100. When I was a bridesmaid for my friend I have £200.
