Somewhere you can share an activity or experience, what is your budget?

The west coast of the USA is always a great option because of the variety - trekking down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and staying in the ranch at the bottom is an amazing trip. My teen is a bit older and we are doing a cruise this year because each day we can easily visit another place without driving (not doing the formal excursions, just using local transport so as it's ai it's worked out quite a reasonable cost

My 13 year old really wants to go to Australia, to see koalas and kangaroos he said.

My 14 year old would rather stay at home with the Wi-Fi.

What's your teen like? How adventurous are they?

ShippingNews · 25/08/2019 08:42

Ask them where in the world they'd like to go....and go there.

onyourway · 25/08/2019 10:06

I did NY with my 13 dd. She loved it. It does depend on what their interests are though?

Starlight456 · 26/08/2019 15:35

If money is no object - Bitter End Yacht Club in BVI. Amazing for everyone.

FredaFrogspawn · 26/08/2019 16:28

Er... forget that! It was destroyed in the 2017 hurricanes and is still being rebuilt! Sorry.

FogCutter · 26/08/2019 16:35

Maybe a city you can have a look round but that also has beaches (or nearby) for chilling out?

Lisbon
Porto
Barcelona
Valencia
Malaga

LizziesTwin · 26/08/2019 16:37

A safari? Lots of sitting in jeeps and being driven to drinks.

Starlight456 · 26/08/2019 17:51

I will have a look at city breaks . I did a Safari in Kenya years ago and would be perfect except my Ds has no interests in animals at all

We went to Hawaii when my children were similar ages, lots to do & a once in a lifetime destination if you live in the UK.

Costa Rica has similar activities, you don’t need to be at all athletic for zip-lining.

Starlight456 · 26/08/2019 18:01

Ooh I was going to get married in Hawaii but then he cheated on me , so never got to go .

I will look at Costa Rica too.

You can celebrate never marrying that dickhead as well as your birthday then Grin. We went to Maui & Big Island. Stayed in Paia in Maui, felt like we were in the real Hawaii, lush green surroundings, can cycle down the volcano, zip lining, drive over to the other side & see the main tourist areas.

On Big Island we did lots of diving (could just go snorkeling), helicopter tour of island etc.

Could probably add in Honolulu if you want to go to Pearl Harbour but DH had been there for work & didn’t like it. You can have surf lessons on all the islands.

Lots of friends have been to Costa Rica recently as there’s a direct flight now. Great yoga/surfing retreats.

Japan. You get to see some amazing sights. DC love the big cities with their neon lights, bullet trains, kitsch and cute robots and crazy fashions. But there's also all the medieval villages where people wear kimonos. There are loads and loads of beaches, and loads of hot spring spas too.

The whole place is super safe, really clean and surprisingly good value.

timeforawine · 26/08/2019 18:33

Hawaii, walk on Haleakala, hike at Kiluea, stargaze on Mauna Kea, Diamond Head hike on Oahu, drive the road to Hana on Maui.
So many things to do, beautiful beaches, stunning scenery

timeforawine · 26/08/2019 18:35

Or Seychelles, Mahe is beautiful, good excursions. Day trip to La Digue which has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Anse Source d'Argent

LizziesTwin · 26/08/2019 19:44

Went to Japan with 14, 12 & 10. Very successful trip, stayed in Kyoto, Tokyo & Hakone. Generally grumpy DS liked it.

Newgirls · 26/08/2019 19:48

My 13 year old would say USA - San Fran, Florida or New York - lots to do for you too?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/08/2019 20:23

My DD is interestd in ancient history, so when she was 18 I took her to Athens.

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2019 20:23
