As I have literally none! Grin

DD starts school in a couple of weeks. Today, we got a postcard from her new teacher asking her to make a shoebox with objects in there that represent her. It has to stay at school for a week.

I have no idea! I thought we could decorate the shoebox with photos of her with her family and friends. And I thought of one thing to go in there - she loves the beach, so I thought we could paint a stone and a shell and put them in. But what else?

She's into normal 4yo things really. Loves mermaids, pirates, space, Disney films etc.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'd put things like a toy that she likes (but not one that is irreplaceable), favourite snack or treat, a book she likes. Just stuff she likes really. The case of her fave Disney film?

A pirate eye patch? You don't need to paint the stone, just a stone and some sand.

Put a layer of beach sand in the box with some shells. Print out a little mermaid picture, cut it out, glue it on cardboard and make a little stand to have it standing on the beach. Decorate the outside of the box with disney princesses and pirates.

Use some blue paper (or color it blue) to make the sea.

Paint the outside of the lid and write on it

Favourite movie:
Favourite meal:
Favourite song:
Favourite toy:
Favourite game:

And add photo's of movie, toy, game and meal (google is your friend here).

Make home made type of playdough with two cups of flour, one cup of salt, 1 cup of water and one tablespoon of oil. Let your child recreate what she likes in dough (as in dolls, pirates, cakes or whatever (help them if necessary). Bake at 100 degrees celsius for anywhere from 1-3 hours (depending on how big the project is, just check evety 30 minutes after the first hour, if it's turning a little brown then it's time to stop). Let it cool.

If you have food colouring in the house you can colour the dough before you make something. It is edible, so safe for children, but tastes vile due to the salt content.

The hardened bread doesn't last for ages but will do for this project.

Normally when schools do this the shoe box bit is irrelevant. It's what is inside. Usually it's a prompt for the children to talk a little bit about themselves Infront of the class
