What is a 2* in business (GCSE results day)

decisionsindecisions · 22/08/2019 10:07

Obviously it is results day today and my niece has taken all GCSE subjects with the exception of business. She has no idea what a 2* is or what this means. Does anyone know?

I'm not sure on the * but a 2 is what would've been an F, or possibly between F & E looking at the chart.

PullingMySocksUp · 22/08/2019 10:22

Do you mean her business exam wasn’t a gcse?

blackpinkinyourarea · 22/08/2019 10:25

Is it a BTEC? Level 2 distinction?

Didn't she pick her results up from school? In which case they'll be teachers there for her to ask.

WorraLiberty · 22/08/2019 10:28

Why didn't she ask at school?

BarbaraofSeville · 22/08/2019 10:32

Surely this has been explained multiple times during the GCSE years, or do people really spend time studying for exams that they have no idea what the grades mean?

sergeilavrov · 22/08/2019 10:45

Asterisk used to mean that special consideration marks had been awarded as part of the final grade. Would this apply in your situation? If not, then ask a teacher at the results day - they will know best!

decisionsindecisions · 22/08/2019 11:01

I have no idea why she didn't ask. She's a bit shy to be honest. No it is not a GCSE. She has got 6s, 8s and a couple of 9s in those which are easy to work out. I think this is a BTEC?

OP posts:
PullingMySocksUp · 22/08/2019 11:02

Does it not give the qualification next to the subject?

decisionsindecisions · 22/08/2019 11:03

Probably but I am at work so I don't have the marks in front of me. I think she's asking me because her mum has said she doesn't know either.

If it's a btech, isn't that a double distinction?

IAskTooManyQuestions · 22/08/2019 11:18

Btec grade would show as DD or DD

Asterisk used to mean that special consideration marks had been awarded as part of the final grade. - that certainly doesn't show now.

PullingMySocksUp · 22/08/2019 11:34

Can she send you a photo of it? Poor thing, not knowing!

decisionsindecisions · 22/08/2019 11:37

She should have asked at the school but she is really shy and doesn't like speaking up. Yes it is a BTEC.

I have found this. It is four years old but does seem to explain the gradings reasonably clearly.

A friends daughter has just posted her results online and she has a 2* in a BTEC and she said it's a distinction. Well done to your niece Smile

decisionsindecisions · 22/08/2019 12:16

username19 Thank you for that. She will be delighted and I will text her now to let her know.

PotteringAlong · 22/08/2019 12:17

A 2* is a distinction and the highest grade she could have got.
