Lots of short holidays or more longer ones

Just thinking based on another thread, assuming most people have standard 5 weeks annual leave, for those who use it pretty much solely travelling abroad, do you tend to break it up and go away for one or two 7 or 14 day holidays?

Or do you have lots of shorter holidays?

Theoretically if you combined Mon-Fri leave with weekends you could take short trips away 10 times a year.
Eg fly Friday evening/Sat early AM and get back Tuesday or fly first thing Wed, get back Sun.

Admittedly not that fruitful if flying more than a few hours as would eat in to trip time.

Just curious how often other people schedule their hols...

We don’t tend to go on holidays for longer than a week. I prefer more frequent shorter breaks.

We've tended to do the one longer holiday but increasingly I think I'd prefer shorter holidays but more of them (although you would end up spending more money and your carbon footprint would be shot to hell). Two weeks is a hell of a long time if your kids are being horrible/the weather's not great/you run out of things to do. Four days somewhere just seems more manageable.

We tend to do a few weekends or 4 nighters on this country rather than 1 big holiday

We also have family at other side of country we fly to 4 times a year which is probably pushing £2k and a big chunk of our holidays

We never have 14 days it's just too long for us. Usually have 2 or 3 week long holidays a year plus maybe a long weekend or two.

It is a balance to make sure the travel doesn't eat into the holiday time and cost wise.

This year we've done 5 nights camping in July, 5 nights camping last week, and gave planned 1 week in France beginning of September (3 hour drive away). We'll do 3 nights somewhere at the end of September (big festival here, got to keep the dog away from fireworks).

I'd hate to do 14 days in one place.

We're in the US and we have 5-6 weeks vacation.

We tend to do a big holiday every 2 years, usually lasting at least 2 weeks and involving a fair bit of travelling around.

Alternatively we quite often head back to the UK to see family and friends for 1-2 weeks.

We usually also do a 1 week to 10 day holiday somewhere that's within the US - we've done Chicago, California, New York, etc.

We do quite a few long weekends away too, either camping or staying in a hotel somewhere.

We also save some time off for when we have visitors so we can spend time showing them round local tourist spots.

This year DH has taken 7 weeks so we've been all over the place.

I get 13 weeks. Husband gets the standard. We tend to go away for one full week as a family and then lots of shorter trips. Me and the children go away more as we get more holiday. We havent had a two week holiday for eleven years! Until next year :) Husband uses the rest of his leave on christmas and the children’s inset days and the weeks mine and the children’s holiday doesn't match.

I like one week long a year and then a few city breaks. My body could do with two weeks lay on a relaxing beach but god i would be so bored!

Our holidays don't work like that, but I like to have one holiday of approximately 10 days, (We rarely can afford abroad) but 1 day to get there, 1 day back, means it's already only 8 days, the first day is always wasted, looking for supermarkets, working out what attractions exist etc.
Which means there's only really 7 days to get out and explore, relax and enjoy your hols. Any shorter hardly seems worth the effort.

We then have shorter trips to visit family etc.
