On Sunday DH and I are in Sheffield City and have got a few hours to kill...want to go for lunch. Any suggestions? Open to anything but quite like tapas

The canteen is brilliant. Lots of different food from local sellers. Japanese, thai, French etc like a food market

Kommune is my favourite!

Cubana is good for tapas.

Public is a fab bar.

Enjoy your visit :)

Kommune is like an indoor street food market, so there isn't one menu. Each vendor has its own menu, but there's lots to choose from. You order at the individual vendor then there's a big seating area to sit in.

I'd also recommend Cutlery Works if you fancy a trip out to Kelham Island (lots of nice pubs in that area too, maybe 5 minutes in a taxi).

In the city centre there's also Lucky Fox (fried chicken but posh and artisan-y), Bloo 88 (pizzas), Bungalows and Bears (burgers and pub food), Gousto (very nice but pricey Italian) or there are lots of nice cafes like Marmadukes, Tamper, Birdhouse, Steam Yard.

Forgot to say, if it's tapas you really fancy then I'd take a look at places on London/Abbeydale Road. It's maybe 5-10 minutes in a taxi.

Leopold square has quite a few nice restaurants and there should be some jazz playing too in the square (there normally is on Sundays in August).

Great suggestions! Prefer to stay in town though

Second going to Leopold Square. I really like Cubanas as well.

Humpit is good too. Is it still open?

Or if you fancy a cream tea, there's (what looks like a tiny) cafe down one of the side alleyways from the main bit in town.

Iirc, quite a lot of the shops have moved to the bottom end apparently. I don't know where there is to eat down that end.

Ego next to Peace Gardens (very central) is nice!

Kommune is amazing - 5 mins walk from centre.

Not keen on Cubanas. Kommune is good. VeraGusto is amazing but very pricey. Lots of crappy restaurants in the city centre - look at TrioAdvisor before you go.

efeslight · 22/08/2019 10:00

Thanks for the recommendations, am in Sheffield in oct.

Overseasmom100 · 22/08/2019 16:19

Some great ideas

Ego is my fave so far

@efeslight with that name I get an inkling that you may like Turkish food. There are two Turkish restaurants on West Street. My favourite is the Efes restaurant it's a fab and very friendly place with lovely food. The Istanbul is closer to the town centre but only a few hundred yards further to the Efes

efeslight · 23/08/2019 14:06

Thanks hecateh...So much food, so little time...
