How old was your DS when his last baby tooth came out?

DS is about to turn 13, and he has just lost his final baby tooth. Is this average by MNers standards? Asking for some growth-related reasons which probably aren't worth boring you with!
TIA

DSS is 12 and recently stung us for THREE baby teeth. I'm not sure how many he has left but 13 definitely doesn't sound outside the boundaries of normal?

Aqueo517 · 20/08/2019 17:54

Well I’m a bit worried about DS. He’s 10.5 and only lost 8 teeth! The dentist doesn’t seem concerned but he’ll be loosing them well into secondary school at this rate.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/08/2019 17:56

I had my last baby teeth pulled when I was 16 and getting braces. DS is 15 and has his baby molars.

iklboo · 20/08/2019 17:56

About three weeks ago. He's 14 in November.

Hepzibahr · 20/08/2019 17:58

My DD is 13 and still has three baby teeth left. She is under an orthodontist who is happy to leave them to fall out in their own time.

Thanks, all. Sounds like he may be on the early side then...

@Aqueo517 that doesn't sound unusual at all to me!

Ds is almost 13 and is about to have 11 baby teeth removed because they aren’t budging so I presume most of all should be gone by now.

(He has most of his other baby teeth removed for him too)

mrsed1987 · 20/08/2019 18:02

Im 32 amd still have 3 baby teeth according to my dentist lol

genome · 20/08/2019 18:04

I had the last three of mine removed at 13/4 (although I'm female!) because they wouldn't fall out!

LtGreggs · 20/08/2019 18:06

My DS is 12.5 and still has 9 baby teeth to go. Dentist said that might be on the slowish end of scale, but not of concern.

AnotherMarrogFromMars · 20/08/2019 18:08

@LtGreggs my DS still had about that many (maybe more) 6 months ago. They all seem to have come out in a very short time (tooth fairy would be broke if still going...)

Completely normal, seen then at 15 drop out.

However, sometimes there is no adult tooth underneath so the root of the baby tooth cant be dissolved by the descending adult tooth, so the baby tooth can stay for quite a long time. We've seen patients into their 50's who still have a baby tooth.

alianangel · 20/08/2019 18:14

My DS is 22 and still has 4 baby teeth.

Jaffacakebeast · 20/08/2019 18:17

Mine lost his last baby tooth at 11, almost 12

Tapperrapper · 20/08/2019 18:20

I have one baby tooth left and I am 54!

londonloves · 20/08/2019 19:03

I'm sure I didn't lose the last molars til 12 or 13

Oopsy41 · 20/08/2019 19:04

Mine are 14 and 12 and still have baby teeth

cptartapp · 20/08/2019 19:06

DS had baby teeth pulled at 16 for braces. They weren't even loose.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/08/2019 19:33

Neither were mine - one was even a lower front one. 5 out in one sitting - ouch! Then the wisdom teeth had to come out a bit later!

AnotherMarrogFromMars · 21/08/2019 10:57

Oh wow, OK - huge variation.

My main hope was that this wasn't hugely early, as DS is quite small and I'd always been told this was because he's probably a "late developer". But perhaps teeth aren't hugely related to that anyway.

Thanks for all the responses!

My son is 14 and still has baby teeth, v late losing them and my 8 year old has only lost 3 so far well top front is not for coming out

sunnysunchild · 21/08/2019 14:02

DS had all 4 top front baby teeth pulled just before his 10th birthday. They were solid in his gums, not wobbly at all and the adult teeth were coming through behind. X rays showed that the massive adult teeth were not dissolving the roots of the baby teeth.
When the baby teeth were extracted they had massive long roots and looked like parsnips 😳😳.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 21/08/2019 15:19

39 and one baby tooth still going strong according to my dentist

reluctantbrit · 21/08/2019 17:03

DD was 11.5 when the dentist confirmed that all baby teeth were gone. No idea when the last one came out, I lost count, somewhere between 11 and 11.5
