According to Kevin Mcloud. And grey aluminium windows. It’s all about french windows now.

Yay! I have some!!!
They are ancient, and I waited until I could afford to replace them, but maybe I won't now 🤣

bilbodog · 18/08/2019 22:50

I hope grey goes - its so drab and cold and ive always had french windows, yippee!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 18/08/2019 22:55

And grey aluminium windows. Grey aluminium windows are over? I had no idea they’d even begun. Does that mean I’m ahead of the curve, or behind?

Surely the key is to buy what you like, not what you’re told is trendy....

We went for sliding doors not bifolds for this very reason. Bifolds are the big thing but I didn’t like them.

MrsIronfoundersson · 18/08/2019 22:57

Yay! My house is so out of date it's in fashion again. Saves on the decorating expense too.

Pipandmum · 18/08/2019 22:58

It’s crittall style windows and doors now!

BruceyForsyth · 18/08/2019 23:01

I thought it is Crittall now?

QuitMoaning · 18/08/2019 23:01

Um I have (dark) grey bifolds.

What do I win?

(I bloody love everything them though and have them fully open as much as possible!)

justasking111 · 18/08/2019 23:08

I like bifolds but do wonder how long they will last before they start misbehaving.

Titsywoo · 18/08/2019 23:09

I hate bifolds! Too much sodding glass. I dont need so much sunlight streaming into the room that i can see every speck of dirt and have to spend ages cleaning glass as my dh and kids can't seem to resist leaving their grubby fingerprints all over it every bloody day. I love french doors!

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 18/08/2019 23:11

How do you stop your house being taken over by flying insects when you have hold doors wide open? We just have bog standard sliding patio doors which we open enough for a body to slip and that's enough to bring in every bloody winged insect in the local area.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 18/08/2019 23:11

Hold = bifold

StCharlotte · 18/08/2019 23:20

Hooray! I have lovely old French windows.

But I do have bi-fold pantry cupboard doors Confused

gleegeek · 18/08/2019 23:32

Oh good. We're just about to put French windows into our extension Smile Not decided on colour or material yet though...perhaps not grey!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/08/2019 00:42

I love French windows!

Neighbours' bifolds on a midterrace extension - right up to the boundary - amplify noise from their front room and kitchen diner Hmm
They do look nice but not very practical in this instance. Sorry!

PoppyFleur · 19/08/2019 07:58

The craze for crittal is the very definition of style over substance. Why would anyone wish to view their outdoor world through grid lines? They must be minecraft fans.

everythingcrossed · 19/08/2019 08:27

Hmmm, grey is a really useful colour if used in moderation (eg, grey walls but not with grey woodwork, grey carpets and grey furniture). Bifold doors have become ubiquitous but they have advantages over French windows in that they allow a bigger, unbroken run and they open up completely. Both trends have been overdone but both will survive and look stylish if people use them more selectively.

Swishyswash · 19/08/2019 08:51

@QuitMoaning I have 2 sets of grey bifolds, like you I have them open as often as possible. I love them!

FamilyOfAliens · 19/08/2019 08:59

Just googled Crittall windows - I can see they would look good on an industrial building, but for your home?

I’ve got French windows too. It’s true what they say - everything comes back into fashion if you wait long enough.

IhaveALooBrush · 19/08/2019 09:13

Ooh
My house is art deco, it would look really nice with crittall.
And dh has insisted on fucking grey fucking painted everywhere.
I hope what comes in are nice bold patterns in proper colours

DustyMaiden · 19/08/2019 09:16

Kevin mcloud is he the messiah of decor?

nachosTrafficante · 19/08/2019 16:21

I think he’s the messiah of design....or at least he has a very good idea for what works well in architecture.

Surely that's George Clarke's title?

nachosTrafficante · 19/08/2019 17:25

I do love George Clarke. He just enjoys it all so much!!

MarshaBradyo · 19/08/2019 17:26

I’m surprised he entertained bifolds being in
