Stop The Bus {the card game} its not how I remember it!

We used to play as a family at Christmas. The only members of that family left are me and my sister.... And we can't get it right!

We played tonight according to the rules when you Google it and whilst some of it is familiar (the tokens, we used to play with two pence pieces) but there's no way we'd have remembered the scoring as such small kids and something about it isn't right!

Does anyone know of other versions that we might have played in the mid 80s to the early 90s?

And while we're at it, any other good card game recommendations?
