Does anyone know why the police are called Kilo 13?

Just that really. The police are called Kilo 13 by the ambulance service and also the Fire Brigade.
Google has been no help at all.

Just curious as to why? The origins etc?

DO has no idea despite being in the ambulance service over 20 years. And before that, a fireman.

Never heard that and I work for the fire service

@Imaystillbedrunk
DP has worked for LFB and In the South West and says they were called that in both? Maybe it's regional? Now in East Mids and they're called it here too.

They're Calling 99 here I'm told.

I’m a police officer and I’ve never heard that. It might be a regional code name. For example our force has different call signs for our cars/vans compared to nearby forces (Romeo 1 compared to Tango 1 for example).

Well, ‘Kilo’ is just the NATO phonetic alphabet for ‘K’, isn’t it? Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf etc etc.
