Length of personal statement for a university application - HELP!

I am writing a personal statement for a top up degree and need some help. It says to use a maximum of 2000 words. What do you think is a reasonable length? On googling it seems that the average for a UCAS application is 4000 characters, but this is definitely 2000 words. Thanks.

If you are submitting directly to the uni, stick to the guidance, if you're submitting on the UCAS undergrad website, it will cut you off at 4000 characters

It’s direct to the university. So do you think I should be aiming to fill the 2000 words. I have just under 1000 at the moment. Needs tweaking and a little adding but I can’t see how I can double it without a lot of obvious waffle.

I wrote a page (single spaced, 12-pt font), then formatted as directed by the university or UCAS, I was returning as a mature student & I received an offer from every university I applied to. The maximum limit is just that, a maximum. Good luck :)

Thanks Rosebud anyone else? Thanks.

I would work to meet the 2000 word maximum. If you have only written 1000 words I would suggest you have either not covered everything or what you have written is in insufficient depth and you could be selling yourself short.

YourDaughter · 13/08/2019 18:44

You need to use the maximum. 2000 words to sell yourself is not that much really.

I work with post 16 students and am a major part of their uni application process. Must have read hundreds of personal statements 🤦‍♀️ Feel free to PM me for feedback if you would like me to cast an eye over.

Ok, thanks. Seems I have a lot more work to do then. Friday is the deadline, I was hoping to have it sent in by tonight! 😖
