Knocked down and killed a cat this afternoon....

Excuse the irony of my name, I am a cat fan which makes it all the worse.
DP knocked down a cat this afternoon. I was the passenger. It happened to be a black girl cat, exactly the same as ours.

There was no way we could've stopped, she ran out of nowhere and there was absolutely no chance of stopping. It was on a particularly busy road. She was killed instantly, let out a meow and then was gone.
One of the neighbours came out as DP was googling nearest vets and said it was her neighbour's cat. The neighbour wasn't in at the time but this lady took the cat and told us she would inform the neighbour as soon as she's home.

I haven't been able to sit still since, I feel so sad. I want to do something for the owner but I don't know what? I know where the house is so I could take some flowers? I'm not sure whether to just leave it. DP left his number with the neighbour.... what would you do??

The cats name was Figgy. RIP x

I think you've done all you can do . You stopped and dh left his number.
It must be awful for you but at least the cat died quickly no pain .
Try to no go over it in your mind please try and do something to take your mind off it.

Flowers. Oh no. I’m so sorry. It must have been a huge shock, and The sadness must be slightly bumped up with having a your own cat just like Figgy.
Like you say, though. There is no way your dh could have stopped. It was a tragic accident. Figgy also passed instantly with no suffering, which is something.

At least you did the right thing and stopped and at the end of the day accidents happen. We've been unfortunate to lose two cats to the road, we went out and found them on the side of the road as neither driver stopped. It was heartbreaking to find them and you leaving Figgy with the neighbour will be of comfort to the owner. I'm so sorry for all of you Sad
