Can I let my baby sleep on his front?

Just turned 4 months. EBF. Wouldn't go back to sleep so went to sleep in the spare room as usual...immediately rolled over and is fast asleep! Can i let him sleep like this?

Usually in a sleepyhead and always put down on his back if that matters.

Thank you

It's fine. DS does too has done for ages. Even babies prefer tobsleep certain ways. I like to sleep on my front when pregnant but never when I'm not pregnant.

If he's in the sleepyhead no. You are supposed to stop using them once they can roll. If he's in a cot on his own (without sleepyhead) and started on his back, it's OK to leave him once he's rolled onto his front by himself.

He's not in the sleepyhead. We went to the spare room to co sleep as usual (his sleep has been dreadful recently) and he just rolled over and fell fast asleepConfused

If he can get himself into that position then yes, leave him as he is. Just make sure there's nothing he could roll onto or into.

Thanks everyone. Not sure I'll get any sleep tonight for worrying but he seems okay! All usual safe co sleep practices in places. Thank you

My DS, 10 weeks, won't sleep any other way except for his front! 😩

BertieBotts · 11/08/2019 06:14

Ah OK :) I wasn't sure from your first post. Definitely let him find his own sleep position. The advice only says you need to put them down on their front to begin with.

My grandson 9 months has only ever slept on his front ( much to the health visitors disgust). He was such a jumpy twitchy baby he used to wake himself up every couple of minutes when on his back. Obviously
He can roll to whatever position he likes now but on his front is always the preferred option.

As soon as DD could roll over she slept on her front 😫. Still does 15 years later.
