IMDB 'I need to know'

IMDB, before they ditched their forums, used to have a brilliant message board called 'I need to know' which was for trivia questions about TV/films that you couldn't remember the name of, or the actor's name etc (recent Samantha Bond thread reminded me of it) etc.

I used to love it and to try and to sleuth the answer even if I had no clue.

Does anyone fancy replicating it? I miss the old IMDB forums!

If you have a burning question about an old tv programme from your childhood, please post it here Grin

I've got one but I have hardly anything to go on.

Film. Watched around 1984-6 probably on TV but could have been video. After the watershed. About a missing (teen) girl and trying to find her, I think she had run away and disguises herself in a wig (a job with fring iirc). Something to do with a closet in her bedroom (maybe a clue found as to why she ran away).

Bugging me for at least 20 years.

PeriComoToes · 13/08/2019 22:48

Bob with fring!

PeriComoToes · 13/08/2019 22:48

Fringe! FFS I'm going to bed

sivola · 13/08/2019 22:58

Peri I'm sure I watched it too! Off to google. I remember very 80s hair and make up.

Hi the nodding /shaking camera was that travel show with Magenta Devine. The guy was Sankha Guha and I loved him.
In terms of my one I know the music was used in a film apparently but I've no memory of ever watching it! I guess that must be where the Daktari confusion crept in but it still feels wrong to me!

sivola · 13/08/2019 23:51

OMG Peri, I give up for now. But I definitely remember watching a similar drama in the 80s with my mum, don't think it was a children's programme. Think it was a 2 parter on itv or equivalent. I'm playing with the words runaway/fleeing/come home/looking for ?.
I'm sure it was very popular and everyone was talking about it (but then in the 80s we watched the same things at the same time).

Thanks Puppylucky, but it's not that. The guy was a white, very English guy in his 30s or possibly 40s, with dark brown hair. I want to say his name was Dave or similar. Actually Dave might have been the camera?

WeThreeKingsofOrientAre · 14/08/2019 07:58

@MissCharleyP you sleuthed it! OMG! So spooky for a children’s show!

I also loved Tales of the Unexpected!

😄

PeriComoToes · 14/08/2019 08:43

sivola so glad you remember it too. Definitely not a kids programme. I watched it at a friend's house so likely to have been on a Friday or Saturday night. I only remember watching it on one evening but there could have been more than 1 episode.

I thought for a fleeting moment it was Run Lola Run but that's not old enough.

No idea why I 'need' to find out what it was, think it must have really struck a chord with me.

The hunt continues ...

MissCharleyP · 14/08/2019 08:47

@WeThreeKingsof OrientAre

Enjoy! Hardly anyone remembers this but it was spooky for kids TV and the opening and closing themes have always stuck in my head.m

GrumbleBumble · 14/08/2019 11:41

@WeThreeKingsofOrientAre nope not Del Amitri I have the album Last to know is from (well had as I suspect I had it on cassette.)

DearTeddyRobinson · 14/08/2019 12:44

@SamsMumsCateracts was it Keith Floyd? He was a chef, always asking the cameraman questions, 'down here Clive' etc?

PeriComoToes · 14/08/2019 12:54

I've got another one. Watched it at school in the mid 70s so guessing it was some kind of educational programme. Something to do with a falcon or a bird of prey. A girl who wets the bed (dreams she's on the toilet) and a canal/barge. I think it was a drama with a few episodes.

Any ideas?

Zaphodsotherhead · 14/08/2019 12:55

Was it about paranormal stories? It reminds me of a show that showed three paranormal recreations and you had to guess which was true

That's currently reshowing somewhere in the US programmes on Freeview, I recently watched a couple of episodes when I was laid up on the sofa.

Irrelevant, but that's how it goes...

Getoffmylilo · 14/08/2019 13:03

@SamsMumsCateracts - was it Travelogue, presented by Marc Edwards?

@PeriComoToes - Runners starring Kate Hardie possibly

SadieBaneso · 14/08/2019 14:08

PeriComo Toes
I think it’s Sky Hunter

ElsaMars · 14/08/2019 14:18

I have one that's been bothering me for years. It's a cartoon kids film, only ever watched it once in the 80s and it was about some animals looking for a stone, possibly called a moonstone? I remember a bit where they're going underwater in a 'lift' of some kind, possibly an old light fitting. Think they could have been mice? I also seem to recall a song in it I like. It's stuck with me for 30 odd years. It's not the Rescuers (pretty sure anyway)

SadieBaneso · 14/08/2019 14:37

ElsaMars I’m certain it’s The Secret of NIMH.

SamsMumsCateracts · 14/08/2019 14:45

DearTeddyRobinson and Getoffmylilo, thank you, but nope it wasn't those. I wouldn't swear to it, but I think it was on bbc2, I don't remember adverts. Definitely mid nineties though.

Shouldhavedoneitsooner · 14/08/2019 14:48

Pericomotoea I think that you are talking about Geordie racer part of ‘look and read’. There was also ‘Space Boy’ And ‘Badger Girl’.

whensa · 14/08/2019 14:50

@GrumbleBumble High Fidelity?

whensa · 14/08/2019 14:53

Sorry I thought you meant film not a music track!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 14/08/2019 14:53

Ooh I have one. It was diabolical so I don't even know why I want to know...

I'm sure it was Robin Williams (but that could be the red herring) and it was all very dreamlike and maybe had bits set inside a painting of a abstract sort of landscape. A love story.

I watched it while extremely sleep deprived and it was so weird!

SadieBaneso · 14/08/2019 14:59

BuzzShitbagBobbly it’s What Dreams May Come
