Summer holiday survival tips with 10 and 12yo

I've got the whole summer holidays off with the DC (10 and 12yo) which I have really been looking forward to, but have come to the realisation that the times when they would happily spend long days outside at the park / beach / etc are behind us :(

We have already been for a week away and had a couple of days just chilling at home, but I can't stay at home all day for more than a day or I'll go crazy. They would happily stay at home staring at screens all day so I need some ideas to get them out of the house!

They are too old for most of the local family attractions and I don't have much money to spend anyway. They have declared themselves too old for the summer reading challenge and neither is into football etc, they don't ride bikes, they don't like anywhere that's too noisy/busy such as laser quest / trampolining. They are used to walking long distances (lots of places to go near us and we have National Trust passes) but they complain about it - I'd like to find something they'll actually enjoy! They do enjoy swimming and we have a fortnightly session at a private pool.

More ideas welcome please...

You could travel to a nearby town or city and explore. Get them to research it and work out what they want to see. Maybe think about taking the train or bus to make it a bit different and it takes longer.

Theme parks, wildlife parks - not the cheap option but nice to do them once or twice in the holidays.
