Just got home and front door is wide open

Just got home from work, DP leaves after me, and the bloody front door was standing wide fucking open.

I'm assuming DP either left it wide open when he left at 8am or didn't close it properly, or we have a ghost. Definitely not a burglar because the tv, laptop and soundbar are all still here in the living room.

Thank god we live in a cul de sac in a village, but I kind of can't believe we haven't been robbed!

Oops I've done that a couple of times ... I think burglars think 'surely no sensible person would leave their front door wide open if they're not there' and move on!

A few years ago ds2, maybe about 11 years old, had to go back into the house for something. As we were running late and were all in the car we gave him a key and sent him to run in for the item he so desperately wanted, with instructions to pull the door shut after him.

When we returned hours later the front door was wide open. Turned out he thought we meant to close the internal door, about 4 feet in from the front door. Why he thought that we do not know, he was used to closing the front door when we went out anyway but he wasn't usually the last one out, I was.

Thankfully we lived in a small village, about 70 houses, and away from the road and the door was at 90 degrees to the road, so no one had noticed we were out with the door open.

Mistakes happen, it can be a shock, especially until you check nothing is missing. If it was DPs fault hopefully he will learn from his mistake.

Looks like it!

DP just got home and is very sheepish. If my dyson hairdryer had been nicked I would have killed him.

My friend did this once, left the front door wide open on the way to school. When her Mum got home she hid the TV and video recorder in the garden to play my friend up. Sad Grin

My step kids do this ALL the time, they’re 9 and 15. It actually really gives me the rage. They also leave lights on and windows open but that’s another story 🤯🤬🤯🤬 Grr, getting cross just thinking about it. We just call the offender back and make them rectify the situation, every single time.

I went on holiday for 2 weeks and left my back door wide open Shock Came back to a feral cat having set up home in my bedroom. You can imagine the state of it!

It’s a wonder I wasn’t robbed blind. Thanked my lucky stars that day.

DH and I came home from an evening out to find our front door wide open. Blamed each other.

Next night I could hear a racket in the hall. Went to look and it was one of our young cats jumping up and catching the door handle (like the one pictured - at shoulder height) and opening the door!

We had to create a cover for it as he was obsessed.

A while back I stayed in my mums over night with dd. When I get home dd ran up the path and the bloody door was open.
Just shows you, doesn’t it
