Anyone work with domestic violence victims?

I would like a career change, and I want to work with domestic violence victims, I'm struggling to find out how I can get into this role? I'm happy to do a degree, and volunteer!

Thanks

I know that contact centres are staffed by volunteers so that might be somewhere to start.

I don’t remember any volunteers working in my refuge.

Hi op.
Have a look at the women’s aid website.
They have just started an Ambassador training program.
I did my first session on Saturday.
It’s voluntary and free to attend.

I’m also a trainee counsellor that volunteers with Relate if you have any questions.

I used to. I got into it by volunteering on a helpline. A lot if women's services hire for permanent positions from their volunteers.

Thank you everyone!

@ihatethecold so you have a link, as I can't find anything? Thanks

cambridgewa.org.uk/askmeproject.php

I think it’s only in Cambridge and Peterborough this summer but will be rolled out nationally.
You could contact them and ask.

mooselet8 · 07/08/2019 20:41

Thanks @ihatethecold I'm in Suffolk, but not far from Cambridge!

I do as a mental health nurse. Advocacy might work for you? I used to do voluntary work at a women's shelter when I was at Uni.

mooselet8 · 08/08/2019 16:05

@Stompythedinosaur yes I have looked at advocacy jobs, but no idea how to get into it.

Yes, I do, as a children's worker. Both in refuge and in the community. Feel free to PM me. My background is marketing so definitely didn't take an obvious route into it!

mooselet8 · 08/08/2019 16:12

@MushroomTree I will PM you
