Am I mad to fly from Heathrow on Monday 12th Aug?

I need to go on a site visit, and Heathrow has the best flight times.

But do they really?! If there are strikes/ ridiculous IT systems problems then it will be a great big waste of time and money.

Does anyone airplaney have a view on this?

Or I just book it all and hope for the best?

Tia!

Is there a BA strike planned for 12th August? If so, then don't book. Otherwise, well - flights and airlines are completely unpredictable anyway, so why not? Last Autumn, it was Ryan cancelling hundreds of flights at no notice because of the pilots holidays. At Christmas here were hundreds of flights cancelled due to the drones on the airfield. Flights are cancelled or delayed due to weather, or because it's busy and flight misses its departure slot and gets put on an air-traffic hold.
I was on an Easyjet flight from Gatwick yesterday, that was delayed because a passenger, who had already boarded, had to leave. They said it was because he had items in his luggage which they didn't allow on the plane. How he got to the point of actually sitting in a seat for them to realise this, I have no idea. But he had to get off and then they had to go through the plane row by row and ask everyone to identify their cabin luggage to make sure that nothing was unaccounted for. It took an hour.
I know today it's BA and their technical issues. But tomorrow it could easily be something else, or just that the flight you book has issues on the day. It's all a gamble really.

Do you really need to go on Monday? Could it wait until after the school holidays?

I don't think there are any planned strikes for that date. The next lot for Heathrow is later in August. The IT issue with BA was a very rare occurrence. I'm a regular flyer travelling from Heathrow this weekend on a BA codeshare and have absolutely no worries.

Thanks spacecadet that's helpful info.
I'll keep an eye on the departures and just hope it all works out ok!

Thanks all
