So the important ones to do asap

Driving licence. Need to get a form as just ballsed up the one I got
Bank. ✅
Credit card ✅
Doctors ✅
Dentist
Housing association
Car log book
Car insurance
School.. Can't do till Sept.
Maternity exemption certificate ✅
Council tax

Then
Water
Gas
Electricity
TV licence

Does car tax automatically change when I do log book or driving licence?

Do you have pets? If so vets/pet insurance
Electoral register
hmrc
council tax
Optician
Mobile phone
Passport

I changed my name recently and these were from my list!

Yes car tax will update automatically. Mine came through in old name though because apparently reminder letters are printed up to two months in advance.

Hope this helps and congrats on your marriage.

All your loyalty cards and Amazon / groceries deliveries

I assume children .... sometimes travel can be a big issue in some countries where names are different ...

Isn’t there some note put under ‘observations’ to detail your maiden name?

It's taking longer than the wedding planning took!

Any professional bodies or educational facilities ... updating your qualifications

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 06/08/2019 21:51

HMRC - can do this on your online tax account. You do your child benefit separately though. This needs your cHB number though

Likethebattle · 06/08/2019 22:06

HMRC, electoral roll I left my passport as you can travel in it as long as you book in
Maiden name, my passport had 7 years left. You are entitled legally to use either name as both are legally legitimate.

I'm rubbish, I got married in May last year and told a few people and didn't tell others. I just do it when I can be bothered. Eg i literally just told my phone provider as I updated my contract.

The bank wanted to book an appointment to change my name so I didn't bother. (I will do it eventually though) They let me pay in a cheque in my married name using my marriage certificate. (Which I'd taken anyway to prove change of name!)

Passport is one that I didn't see on your list. I'm "leaving mine though. It's perfectly legal to leave it in your maiden name. I'll change it when it expires as it's £70 to change it!

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo · 06/08/2019 22:15

@Wellandtrulyoutnumbered that's interesting you say that about child benefit. I changed my name with hmrc over the phone and asked the question about child benefit and was told it should filter through the system, maybe I should double check?

Dec2019mumtobe · 06/08/2019 22:15

Upgraded* my contract

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 06/08/2019 22:20

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo

I did it online so possibly why it's different?

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo · 06/08/2019 23:59

@Wellandtrulyoutnumbered yes maybe that's why.

WindFlower92 · 07/08/2019 06:28

Clicked because I need this list too! I didn't know both names are legal though? That's handy!

BikeRunSki · 07/08/2019 06:33

Occupational pension providers

Doobigetta · 07/08/2019 06:39

You need to tell your work payroll dept so they pay you correctly, even if you’re keeping your original name for work. I highly recommend doing that, btw. I just changed my name and regretted it the minute I saw it in print, I’m really glad I’ve kept a bit of the old one.
You need to inform DVLA separately for your driving license and car ownership, and also your car insurance. Don’t forget your breakdown company either.
Electoral roll.
The other one you haven’t mentioned is companies you have accounts with- Amazon, ebay, etc. It doesn’t actually matter because you can use whatever name you want to have things delivered, but while I was switching over I was using both names randomly and it’s beyond annoying if you can’t pick up a click and collect because you can’t remember what name you bought it in.

House insurance, life insurance, will.

BertrandRussell · 07/08/2019 06:50

So many good reasons for not changing your name!

So many good reasons for not changing your name!

About to say this! Sounds an utter PITA. Grin. Why on earth do people do it?!
