What to do with leftover food (self catering hol)

What’s the done thing? We over-shopped a bit for our stay. Is it ok to leave a few bottles of wine, beer, unopened food cans for the cleaner or owner? What about the perfectly good veg? It won’t last the journey home. I suppose the half-bottles of ketchup, oil, etc will need to go in the bin. Such a waste. What do you all do? No room in the car and a long way home.

I would leave it in a box with a note to say please help yourself to this. The housekeeping team at my place love it when guests leave goodies for them 😊

I'd leave it all, with a note saying "take what you want"

I'd find room for the wine though Grin

I have a holiday cottage.
I'm on several Facebook groups for owners- everybody is really pleased to find nice food and especially drink that has been left behind.
The dozen magnums left in our cottage freezer last Saturday went down very well!

If it's opened, but still ok, leave it in the fridge with a note? It will either be taken and used, or put in the bin So why not leave it?

Thank you all. Will do!

Make up a crazy packed lunch for the journey home. Our last one was hard boiled eggs, apples and Weetabix chocolate minis dipped in jam.

I leave unopened food for the cleaners with a note so it’s clear we weren’t too lazy to clear up.
There are quite strict hygiene rules about not leaving perishables between holiday lets, so certainly no opened cartons of milk for the next guests.

The vegetables could be boiled, chopped up and made into a thick Spanish omelette. Good to eat cold.

We always leave anything worth leaving with a postit saying "take me". The cleaners (whether owner or hired) can do whatever they like with it.

I'd probably leave some and take the rest home, TBH. I usually camp and the last night's meal is always a huge, random blow-out of whatever's left over, with some extras for good measure if needed. Dog gets any final leftovers but bottles of sauces come back with us. There's never any alcohol left.

Anything opened we bin but anything sealed I left with a note. So wine, beers, some pate.

Thank you all!
