What car for a teenager?

Does your teenager have a car? If so, what sort is it and why did they choose it? And (eek) how much is the insurance?

Narrow it down by insurance group - low as possible, then safety and then budget.

Think we are going for a Skoda Citigo. Group 1 insurance, good value secondhand and good safety rating

Mazda 2.

5 star safety rating. Nice looking car, seem to hold their value. Insurance (in teens name) unavoidable £1400 first year but reduced to £700 in second year, then approx £400 third and subsequent years.

The insurance seemed to be cheaper if they added parents as drivers.

Aygo.

It was my old car.

First year insurance 1100. Second 1400 but its his car and girlfriends a second driver and she was 19 when they paid for it.

He hasn’t passed his test yet, so he has time to look. He wants to buy it himself, so it’ll have to be about 2 grandish. Looking at a Peugeot 107 as the cheapest to insure.

DD had a 107 and insurance was £1300 a year.

SummerLove2306 · 03/08/2019 12:05

DD got a 5 year old Polo, insurance was about £1200 the first year and £600 the second.

DS started with a Ford Ka at 18, think the insurance in London was 1400, replaced after 6 years with a Vauxhall Corsa. DD has a VW Polo. Both good on safety; reasonable insurance. I am named on both and use them for work. DD's insurance was 1100 but she was 20. DS will take the car on when he finishes his Masters.
