Can a positive test be negative due to urine infection?

I've had two positives, one faint and then today a stronger one. I also got a faint one at the GP. She tested me for urine infection and it came back clear, HOWEVER, i still think I had a urine infection in the last week. I read online, not sure how reliable the sources are, that its possible for urine infection to interfere with results and maybe give a false positive. I asked the GP and she didnt seem sure, but she did say it's rare if at all.

Do you mean a positive pregnancy test? I can’t see what a urine infection has to do with it. Pregnancy tests test for a hormone and infections are causes by bacteria or viruses.

I can't see what a UTI would possibly do to affect a pregnancy test, positive or negative. If you have HCG in your blood and urine, you are pregnant (unless of course it's been injected as part of fertility treatment, but you would know about that). If you do not have HCG in your blood and urine, you are very unlikely to be pregnant.

If you've had two positive tests, I'm not sure why you would be questioning if you're pregnant. Do you not want to be?

Thanks. Guess I shouldn't trust everything I read on these health websites Grin
