Visiting Present for 15 year old girl?

HelloCheeky · 01/08/2019 08:13

I am visiting a friend outside the UK with a 15 year old daughter. What shall I bring for her?

In the past I have brought bags, tee shirts, notebooks etc. I am running out of ideas and have also lost touch with trends as my DCs are now grown up.

Can anyone think of anything ?

Japanese or Korean stationery
Make up from Glossier
Manicure set with blue nail polish
Necklace or bracelet that contains their initial (see Not on the high street) or leather type bangle
Eco gifts such as water bottle, wind up phone charger

Bookworm4 · 01/08/2019 08:30

Makeup is very personal and unless you know their preferred brand it’s a no. Initialled stuff is too young.
You’d be better asking her mum for a few suggestions rather than get something she won’t like.

Chilly bottle?

FOSH vital water bottle with a print.
Kleen Kanteen cafe cup
Both seem very popular around here

Do you normally go around policing people's comments on Mumsnet Bookworm4?

I made those suggestions because that is what my just turned 16 year old DD and her friends happen to like (including the brand Glossier which is very popular , as are discreet silver necklaces which have an initial punched in to the pendant part, sometimes paired with a cross, they all are wearing them ) ; and I thought it might be helpful for the op to know that if that's ok with you?

Bookworm4 · 01/08/2019 09:25

@taich
You made very personal suggestions because your daughter likes them, makeup is personal, everyone has a brand preference. Teenagers are hard to choose for hence my suggestion of asking her mum. Are you always so easily offended?
Tbh I don’t know any teenager (my DD included) that would see a water bottle as a gift.

Taichipandas · 01/08/2019 09:29

I'm not offended. I just thought it was rather rude!

I was trying to help the op by telling her what preferences my 16 year old teen and her friends have. It is then up to the op to decide what she thinks is suitable.

And several people besides myself have listed water bottles so it's evidently not just my teen who appreciated one as a gift.

Nidy · 01/08/2019 09:31

@Bookworm4 Wrong! My 14year old DD is obsessed with Chilly water bottles and similar, very much on every gift list. It's a thing with all her pals. Off now to google "FOSH vital water bottle with a print" as possible present for her

pikapikachu · 01/08/2019 09:33

Mine would enjoy some biscuits, sweets or chocolate from other countries.

northerngirl2012 · 01/08/2019 09:35

All that mentioned above, mine love Chilly water bottles. Also anything from urban outfitters too, but you MUST get the bag too!

CurlyMango · 01/08/2019 21:40

Mine would like art stuff. She’s not into make up. A water bottle would be useful and she would prefer that to makeup or nail polish.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 01/08/2019 21:45

I'm 40 and I still like initialled stuff Blush

Leeds2 · 01/08/2019 21:55

Another one saying Chilly water bottle!
A purse - my DD always liked Radley, but I think it was because of the dog motif. Brand may not be very hip and trendy!
She also likes Urban Decay make up. And stuff from Urban Outfitters.
Paperchase stationery.
A hip flask.

womblessofwimbledon · 01/08/2019 22:10

Outside the uk- uk chocolates and sweets.
Does she have social media , you could see what she is into from that.

blametheparents · 01/08/2019 23:14

Glossier make up is very popular with my DD and all her friends.
Hydro flask is also a popular water bottle brand with DD and her friends.
Japanese stationery - washi tape, highlighters etc.
Champion brand - the socks aren’t too expensive.
Urban Outfitters.
Cadbury’s chocolate!
