Stuck in hotel room feeling ill... please cheer me up

I’m feeling so sorry for myself. I’ve had the runs for three days and then last night started feeling shivery and achey on top of that. I’m feeling ridiculously sad that my much looked forward to holiday is being wasted being stuck inside a hotel room and it’s completely set off my anxiety. Any funny stories to distract me from my woes?!

Theres nothing worse than feeling poorly away from home! I hope someone comes along with a funny story soon! Im stuck in a farcical work situation which would be funny if it wasnt my life. I worked really hard to get a new role, passed inrerviews, passed a horrendously difficult course, ive lived and breathed this job since last november. I was meant to start today but it hasnt been 'rubberstamped' so at this moment im not sure if ill be moving to my new job or coming in and doing my old one! Its driving me mad. I can laugh at our hr departments incompetence normally but im going slightly round the twist with it all. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Thanks Piffy for your message, I know it’s silly but I’m feeling really lonely and sorry for myself!

Sorry to hear about the mix up with your job. It’s horrible when things are up in the air like that. Really hope things get resolved for you soon.

Can you distract yourself with some TV or trashy celeb mags? Look at the website "I'm Bored" for some mindless games to distract you. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Paperdolly · 31/07/2019 19:28

Download BBC App. Stick some radio 4 comedy on. Job done! Get well soon 💐

Piffyonarockbun · 31/07/2019 19:38

Thank you Smile. Im sure it will be sorted soon but its very frustrating. Theres some good stuff on audible too and you can usually get a free month so could use it to get you through the next few days. Are you anywhere nice? No holiday for us this year. I was too busy studying for my job! Id love to be somewhere a bit sunny. Its like being stuck in a box here at the mo. Constant cloud! Ive just finished crocheting myself a t shirt. Im about to start stitching it up and ive got an awful feeling its going to be a bit 'snug'. I cant be bothered losing weight and i cant be bothered sewing it up in case it is tight. I just keep staring at it resentfully Grin

Can you send some one to the pharmacy to pick up Motillium/Imodium?

MaryPopppins · 31/07/2019 19:44

You poor thing. Where are you?

Hopefully it'll clear up soon and you can get out a little and enjoy the holiday.

On the subject of poo.

Did you hear about the constipated accountant?
He couldn’t budget.

ScarlettDarling · 31/07/2019 19:45

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post. I’m listening to podcasts and mumsnetting so at least I’m not too bored.

Piffy we’re inTurkey. I’d heard of the ‘Turkey trots’ before but this is awful! Don’t feel like I’ve been food poisoned as I’m not vomiting or nauseous so don’t know what this is. Terrified that dh or dc catch it... the only thing keeping my spirits up is that they’re having a great time.

Impressed by your crocheting skills! I’m useless at stuff like that!

Lego, I’ve got Immodium but thought it was best to let the bad stuff get out?? I always bring immodium incase we need it when travelling.

Thanks for the joke Marypoppins... wish I couldn’t ‘budget’!! Unfortunately it’s budging far too easily!!!

Piffyonarockbun · 31/07/2019 19:48

It might just be the change in climate. Fingers crossed noone else gets it. I hope it passes quickly for you. I keep meaning to listen to some decent serial killer podcasts but i like to listen as i fall asleep. Tried it once and the nightmares put me off so now i stick to terry pratchett, sue townsend and just william!!!!

KnittingSister · 31/07/2019 19:51

Yes, keep the Imodium for essential travel, it is best to get rid of the bug by 'letting it out.'
Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Work your way through mumsnet classics you will have loads of material there!

Missingstreetlife · 31/07/2019 20:03

Drink plenty water

orangeshoebox · 31/07/2019 20:04

actually, current advice is to take immodium to reduce the risk of severe dehydration and to help stop spreading the bug.

allhalekale · 31/07/2019 20:08

Oh love! I had the mega shits the other week and mumsnet got me through the long night.
If you can sip (bottled) water that really will help. Can you get hold of any rehydration salts?
I’m trying to think of a funny story... my ex husband caught the bug off our daughter a few days later... I know it’s horrible but it made me smile Grin

FelixFelicis6 · 31/07/2019 20:12

Do you have a kindle? Could download some easy books to read.

I am also in a hotel room suffering from severe sunburn - though that is entirely self inflicted Blush bloody stupid me! The rest of my family are out having dinner but feel like my burnt bits are burning up so need to cool air con!!

ScarlettDarling · 31/07/2019 20:32

Oh you’re all so lovely! Dh brought me up some bread which I wolfed down ... then pooed straight out!

Felix, sorry you’re sunburnt. I stupidly tried to sit in the sun this morning and ended up nearly fainting. At least I didn’t get burnt though!

OP posts:
Piffyonarockbun · 31/07/2019 20:48

At least youve eaten, even if you didnt have it for long! Plenty of fluids like others have said. I like still coke or pepsi when im feeling rough.
I burned my forehead and the top of my head earlier in the year. Unfortunately i wear glasses so i looked like a red panda!

gotmychocolateimgood · 31/07/2019 21:20

Cocodamol will bung you up if you have any.

Ormally · 01/08/2019 00:00

Orisinal Morning Sunshine web-based games (in Flash...feel like a dinosaur but they are short-lived, quite meditative and provide just the right level of silliness).

So sorry this has struck. Hope you get respite from heat too.

ScarlettDarling · 01/08/2019 13:53

Still pooing through the eye of a needle Sad

Piffy, any news on the job today?

Felix, how’s the sunburn?
