Inspire me! What should we do with our summer off with a one year old?

Slightly unexpectedly, I'm finishing in my current job today and not starting a new one until September - hurrah! (I haven't been sacked or anything, work just agreed to waive my notice period far more than I thought they would - I only got this new job last week). DH is a teacher so on holiday, so we have a long, glorious month of both being off with DS (13 months). And we're not sure what to do!

We're going to have a UK holiday (DS doesn't have a passport - would have sorted one if we'd known I'd have this much time off in August) - any suggestions for where?! And given we probably only want a week away, what else would you do? DS doesn't yet need specifically child centred activities (crafts, for instance, are things you eat to him) but he does need to get out of the house every day or we all go mad. What things did you find good for a one year old? Suggestions for things that are good with two adults/that are fun but tricky with just one adult are particularly welcome, so that we feel we're making the most of both being off!

cornwall is absolutely lovely. if you stay somewhere like this, you are very near the beach, countryside and a lovely village called st Agnes. If you brought your bikes and attached a child seat to the back of one of them, you could go on cycle rides/have picnics up the hills too x

Come to the North East, get a holiday cottage in Northumberland, read the 'Sprog on the Tyne' blog for fun things to do, and waste lots of hours on gorgeous beaches.

Oh and go swimming. SO much easier with two adults.

Thank you both for your suggestions! Beach is a really good idea - DS will love it, he adores getting messy so will paint himself with sand!
