Teen struggling with tampons

Teen struggling to use tampons. Has some swimming/body boarding days coming up and likely to have period. We spent a LONG time trying/discussing last night, to no avail. There were lots tears of frustration. Does anyone have any tips for using tampons for the first time? Thank you.

I can't use tampax but I can use lilets applicator so it's worth trying a few brands

Anyway OP, I just wanted to mention that if all these ideas that people have suggested don't work, please bear in mind that your daughter may not be able to use tampons at all for medical reasons. I know it's unlikely but these sorts of things aren't usually picked up until you're older. I would just hate to think of the poor girl hurting herself trying to force in tampons when she has a valid reason for not being able to use them.

I would say try a bit of lube basically, or vaseline if you dont want to produce lube and a plastic applicator, foot on bath or toilet. Try again when she's not so frustrated

I really struggled at first but did loads of swimming and didn't want my period to get in the way, I was literally exactly like your daughter with tears and everything. Once I'd stopped panicking I learnt pretty quickly it was just I didn't really understand the correct angle.

If she's swimming/bodyboarding in the sea, I definitely think period underwear is the way to go. Worse case scenario she's not going to leak through a wetsuit + period swimwear in the sea to any noticeable degree.

I remember them being incredibly uncomfortable when I started using them but that's because I hadn't put them up enough. Didn't know how far to insert/was scared but once I did it right it wasn't painful!
