What new baby gifts did you really love/appreciate?

Sorry if this thread has been done 1000 times! DSis is due soon and I’d like to get her something really lovely but I can’t make my mind up. I keep seeing so many lovely clothes and blankets etc but she’s bought/been given so many already.

What baby presents do you remember as being special? Things that you actually used and loved. Thanks all!

After I had both of my kids, my lovely SIL had an A4 framed print done for their nurseries with their full names, date and time of birth and weight on. They are beautiful and proudly displayed in their bedrooms.

Cook vouchers! As pp said.

Other than that my favourites were...

Aden and anais swaddles/muslins
Yes the toomies eggs are a big hit
Binibamba fleece for pushchair

Bigger budget the Tripp trapp would be a fantastic present

Note I did not receive all the above as gifts, but would buy them as gifts myself now

Im not due till Jan but things I'd like are
Someone to hold the baby while i have a shower
Some ready meals for the freezer or home cooked meals
Someone to change a nappy or two when they come round
Honestly the baby stuff is all nice but its a helping hand that's appreciated most. Nothing worse than someone coming over to visit baby and just sitting there holding them expecting you to make them cups of tea etc. I already have a ton of baby clothes and baby stuff so i wouldn't appreciate clothes or things i already had but that's just me Grin
Get her a Gusto voucher or something along those lines or if she likes a takeaway like dominoes or somewhere you can get takeaway vouchers that she could use for those days she can't cook or how about a voucher for the hairdressers or something for her ?

Home made or heirloom blankets.
Muslins.
Nappies.
Pretty dresses in 12 - 18 months (everyone usually buys newborn babygrows)
Cards - I kept all mine and got tonnes. Even from all the neighbours although we had only lived in the street 8 weeks. All gone now due to a flood.

My favourite gift was a 5 year line-a-day diary. Mine is nearly finished, I’ve filled it out every day since my twins were born and it’s so lovely to look back at what stage they were at one/two/three/four years previous. It’s now my go-to baby gift for newborns.

My absolute favourite gift was the posh shower gel and body butter from my auntie. In the haze of the first few weeks with a newborn a shower was my only chance for 'me time' and it felt really luxurious. She was the only person that bought something for me rather than the baby and I was so grateful.
Gro egg and Ewan the dream sheep were very useful gifts too.

One friend got DS a cuddly toy and me a lovely Clarins shower gel and body lotion which I really appreciated after having a baby it was a nice treat for me on a morning as all other gifts were for DS.

-Ewan the sheep (we got two, our little boy is nearly three and still carries it around)
-nice shower stuff and bottle of fizz for me from a client, was lovely to have a nice treat just for yourself
-sheepskin pram liner which we used for the car seat, pram, and buggy. Feels a bit extravagant to spend £50 odd quid on a piece of sheepskin so nice to get as a prezzie, and has been used for babies of two friends since and still looks new.
-one of those Johnson's newborn toiletry bags, don't think we ended up using the toiletries but we keep the bag, with nappies, wipes, cream and little changing mat in next to our bed and have used it every single day for nearly 3 years 😂 comes with us if we go away, just handy to have everything together

Our Aden & Anais muslins were used tonnes! I managed to get them in Tk maxx so weren’t expensive and they’re amazing.
We love our fred & Noah leggings too and they’re an amazing company to buy for-their customer service has been second to none.

The other thing that we had that was worth it’s weight in gold was a morrck car seat blanket-it fits around the straps so baby can be uncovered and covered when going indoor/outdoor rather than messing with coats. Absolute godsend in the early days

Oh I nearly forgot - if I’d had one I would have bought a Finnish baby box full of the gorgeous Scandi clothes... sadly I had twins and couldn’t afford two!

I now need to now what Ewan the Dream Sheep is Grin

One lovely present that I had for dd3, was from a colleague's Mum (who I had never met, but just loved knitting), who made me 5 little cardis, in 5 sizes, going up, in neutral, pastel colours. They were so lovely, I was so touched. Just remembering fondly, tbh, not a recommendation that most people could do Smile

I am watching this thread for ideas and thought Ewan the dream sleep sounds great but there are two versions..the normal and the deluxe. Which is best??

Which Ewan the sheep version..normal deluxe???

Report
Pepperstripe · 01/08/2019 11:11

Deluxe as it turns itself on when baby makes a noise.

Ah wow you are all super !!! Grin Thanks so much all for taking the time to help me out. Lots of lovely suggestions for me to go through. My children are grown up now so I was struggling to remember what sort of bits I loved. Much appreciated!

My best friend brought me a homemade lemon cake round and I lived on it for days. I was gutted when she didn’t bring one when I had my second baby (she did bring posh sweets so I let her off!). Also Ewan the Dream sheep and a Sleepyhead. Basically anything that gets them sleep will be well received!!

We did a full weekly shop for DPs friends when they had their baby. It went down really well as it meant they didn't need to leave the house

Pepper strips and other Ewan the dream sheep fans..I thought you were not supposed to leave any toys in new baby's cot for safety?

DS1 was given a beautiful White Company cotton blanket by one of my friends, which he still has, and uses, today. He's nearly 15 and it still looks brand new.

Steiff birth year bear. I bought myself for dd. Hand and foot cast session for dgd. Dd liked it so much that she was happy when I suggested one for dgs.

Dookie universal sun shade. I think you can get them at JoJo Bebe Maman. Solves the problem of taking the baby out in sunlight without the risks associated with draping blankets or muslins over them.
