Transferring national insurance credits to grandparents

Anyone got experience of this?
I've read the eligibility leaflet several times but can't see if there's a set amount of hours the grandparent needs to have cared for the child for. I'm assuming it's not just the odd day or afternoon.
Just trying to help my Mum with her pension, thanks
