First world problem: where do you buy your vanilla essence? (It’s so expensive!)

Or is there an alternative for baking etc?

You can make your own! You need some cheap rum and bulk-bought vanilla pods (you can get these on amazon). It's much less expensive and makes lovely presents for people.

Costco. Massive big bottle of it.

Quellium · 30/07/2019 14:11

Also Costco. Lasts ages.

Lakeland.

The paste with the seeds in. It last a long time, you only need a tiny bit.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/07/2019 14:13

Oh blimey, it was definitely cheaper last time a bought it.

Hmm
whingeygingy · 30/07/2019 14:14

I put sugar in jar with vanilla pod and top it up as I use it .lasts for years😁

Isn’t vanilla essence the cheap stuff? It’s vanilla extract that can be costly especially that Nielsen-Massey stuff.

You can get a small bottle of extract from Tesco and Asda for about £1.75 though!

VivienneHolt · 30/07/2019 16:18

Cheap vanilla extract is a false economy imo because you use so much more of it.

Fluandseptember · 30/07/2019 16:19

it's just soared in price, hasn't it...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/07/2019 16:42

It was definitely under a tenner, right?

I must admit I stocked up for Brexit

FaithHowellsYellowCoat · 30/07/2019 16:45

Vivienne what quantities/ratios do you use?

The big bottle at Costco is £35!

Apologies I do mean extract not essence.

Morrison’s have vanilla extract for £1.24 for 38ml, isn’t that what it always was??!!

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/07/2019 16:58
