How expensive? Driftwood Hotel on Roseland peninsula does amazing food.

Overseasmom100 · 29/07/2019 13:38

Doesnt have to be pricey just somewhere that serves lovely food...DS 14 will be with us as well but he eats most things.

The Heron, Malpas. My parents in law live there and it’s getting better all the time since it was taken over a few years back. Amazing views over the river where the Fal splits off to Truro and Tresillian. Parking can be a bit of a sod, so you can either walk up along the river from Boscawen park to earn the calories, or take a bus.

The Heron looks lovely and perhaps what Im looking for - lovely view good homecooked food

It’s about half an hour away, but Lewinnick Lodge, just outside Newquay has the best view of the sea and the food is lovely too.

When on holiday in the Roseland area we've had many good meals at The Kings Head at Ruan Lanihorne which is a tiny village out in wilds not too far from Tregony. There are cheaper places around but we've always found that the quality of the food and the service to be very good value for money. If you like g and t's try theirs made from locally produced Tarquin's Gin and Fever Tree.

The Cove in Falmouth has a gorgeous view and lovely food. Or the Blue Bar at Porthtowan.

Further afield, but a definite favourite-of-all-time contender is the Porthminster café at St Ives. Not cheap, but brilliant, and right on a truly lovely beach.

I came on to suggest The Heron at Malpas - my favourite place to go. The food is amazing, especially the fish platters & the mussels, and the view is absolutely outstanding.

I would avoid Mannings as a pp suggested. The cocktails are good but food is very overpriced.

The Punchbowl & Ladle in Feock is fab for Sunday Roasts and if you're looking to go a little further afield, The Plume of Feathers in Mitchell is really worth visiting (around 25 mins from Redruth).

Overseasmom100 · 29/07/2019 14:41

The Heron is looking most favourable at the moment as food sounds good and would be nice to have a view but please keep them coming! it looks like 20 mins drive for us but that's fine.

Might be too far but there is an awesome pub in porthleven that does the best ever fish pie

austenozzy · 29/07/2019 16:51

Good call on the punch bowl, bentley, that’s always reliable for good food. Need to book much of the time though. The Old Quay in Devoran is pretty good too. Sadly I’m usually running past on the old tramway as that’s as close to a flat running route for me round here! (Bissoe to Feock and back).

The Working boat in Falmouth is good, and the Ferryboat at Helford passage (my 2nd local) is a bit more distant but worth the effort.

Watching with interest OP. Staying in Redruth just now 😊

Ooh and the Wheelhouse in Falmouth if you like seafood.

Bubbletrouble43 · 30/07/2019 06:23

According to a very culinary friend of mine there is a restaurant called Tabs in truro which he reckons is simply the best food you can get in Cornwall.

Bubbletrouble43 · 30/07/2019 06:26

Oops Tabbs!

Bubbletrouble43 · 30/07/2019 06:27

Yes the wheelhouse falmouth is run by a friend of mine, shellfish only though x

Overseasmom100 · 30/07/2019 21:18

The Heron at Malpas is my local and we always have a good meal there with friendly staff and a good menu. They even have a collection of fleece blankets if it gets a bit chilly and you are sitting outside.
